Post by: les_ly on November 29, 2007, 12:43:49 PM
all I do is using my STORM Cleaner and clean the ball with a towel? Is that not enough?

For best results use a ball spinner, a clean towel and a cleaner of your choice (I use powerhouse myself).

Thats not necessary what you see on his rag is not just oil. Because hes using a scotch brite pad its also the cover stock on that rag. There is no need to do what he does to properly clean your ball. All I use is Black Magic Rejuvinator and a rag. If you clean your ball directly after use the oil for the most part will be just on the coverstock.

Now lets say you let your ball sit after bowling and paying it no attention as far as cleaning it for a couple trips to the alley. Well eventually the ball will "die" as most call it but with a simple hot water bath treatment you can restore the hook back into your ball with out having to pay lots of money to have a pro shop to do it for you. You can find that on www.morichbowling.com under the cleaning section.

Last thing is about the pad that he was using is used to bring the grit down on a ball. Well that would not do anyone any good if:
1) the grit it was putting on the ball was not what you want
2) You have a pearl ball that doesn't need sanding
3) the ball is polished and no need for sanding because you will knock the polish off and have to redo that everytime.

Best thing is get a good cleaner like the Black Magic Rejuvinator and clean your equipment regularly right after bowling and not to worry. If you notice a ball not reacting consistantly or just not hooking give it the hot water bath and trust me it will come back to life.

Good luck and hope this helps!

I use this method of cleaning all the time, and it works great.  I agree that you don't want to use a scotchbrite on polished stuff, for that I just use my Power Wash and a microfiber towel.  That works good because my polished balls don't soak up as much oil.  Now for my Delta and Arsenal Aggressive that I keep dull, I use a green pad (600 grit) using Scoot's method.

The grey pad I used was for to return the robo rule back to box. The fact is a ball spinner is not good because to much pressure can start to burn what ever cleaner you are using into the cover much like a polish. This is why I said to do it by hand. I only showed how to clean the ball the way clean n dull tells you on the back of the bottle. That was just oil on the ball, I was not pushing very hard. Just lightly going over the surface to break off the beltmarks. Sure some may be some cover but not enough to alter the ball off of the box condition I was placing it at. Now my way of showing works just as well for polished equipment, just remove the pad and only use a towel. Just remember to always use water to whipe off the ball as to remove any left over cleaner on the ball just to be safe. It is ok to use the box finish pad that your bal lis at to clean with. This helps to ensure that the suface on your ball is box. However you can only do this when your ball is a fixed smooth or dull finish. Much like the Robo Rule in the video. Box on the Robo Rule is 800, and a grey scotch brite pad is about 800. This is why I used the grey pad. If you had say a Black Widow, you would want to use a 4000 abralon pad as the abrasive. This way you know you are placing a 4000 grit on the ball as you clean.

Just dont ever use a spinner with a towel, because you could end up making the cleaner like a polish and burn it into the ball at times. I would know when I was younger I used to do it, and it would kill reaction.

i set the ball on a towel on the kitchen counter and spray my simple green mixture and thoroughly cover the entire ball. i wait a minute or two and then take a clean rag and really scrub the ball till it's almost dry. then i spray the ball with some water and wipe it clean with a clean rag.

Chaos, not everyone may have the access to a ball spinner like you do.

Recently I received some cleaner from KEGEL and it is outstanding for cleaning balls after league. For deeper cleaning I use Clean-N-Dull. Then about half way through the year I will do a hot water bath which you can read on MoRich's web-site.

Hey send me a email, or pm. I will give you the answer to stuff one on one. This way you dont have to feel stupid for asking anything, yet the only stupid question is the one that isnt asked.
