I bought a ball off ebay and the span is the same as my own so I changed the finger insert but need to remove the thumb slug so I can install a thumb insert. How do you guys remove the slugs.
Thanks

3rd. if there is still slug left use a hammer and a screw driver to chip out the remainder.

The long way is to plug the hole with the slug inside then drill it out. I guess it's to help keep the ball stable, but I've never seen a problem is your press is good.

I almost always will drill out the majority of the slug with a smaller bit (1-1/8 for a 1-1/4 slug) and chip out the rest with a screw driver and hammer. This was you don't distort the original hole by trying to drill out the entire slug with a drill bit...if you are off by just a little you could oversize the hole a tad. If I'm plugging a ball I might utilize the same sized bit, but it depends.

Drill it out, but be prepared for it to make A LOT of noise.
Also, Goof's advice is quite good, assuming you're not planning on plugging and redrilling.

Most people drill them out but it usually leaves part of the old slug showing, especially at the top.
What I do is take a small saw and cut the old slug into quarters. Then I simply take a screwdrive and remove the sections. After the first section, the remaining 3 come out easily.
Key to the sawing is to watch the top and make sure you don't saw into the ball.

Thanks everyone I drilled out some then used a screwdriver to get the rest out.

Be sure that the pitches in the ball are the right pitches. If not you may have some problems if your pitches are way off at to what was in there.
