Title: How Would You Feel If.......
Post by: Doug Sterner on December 12, 2006, 11:11:57 AM
Scenario:
Bowler has been using ball brand X for quite some time and decides that he wants to try something different to fill the hole in his arsenal. He debates and hashes over his choice and gets it down to 3 balls. He then tells his pro shop guy to drill one of the 3 for him and he'll be back in 1/2 hour to throw it a game or 2 to test the fit before he bowls in his scratch league the next night.

He gets and pays for his new $200 ball and goes out to throw a game or 2. After 3 frames he storms the front desk with a nice pea sized chip taken out of the middle of the track left side of the fingerholes.

Here to find out he also had another $200 ball destroyed 5 years ago at the same center along with his spare ball ruined that night as well. 2 years later he had his dry lane ball ruined and then earlier this season had his new spare ball chattered around the full circumference of the ball. The explanation given by the owner each time was that it was the bowler's fault and nothing was done.

This time there was a problem with the lane but still....."it's not his problem."

How would you feel and what would you do?

Doug the poor guy has a right to be upset but not sure how much you can do except voice your opinion as to how they should handle the situation. I think most people would want the ball replaced but not sure that would or could happen. It just makes me glad I bowl in a house where the owner is a bowler and the house is very well maintained. In all the years I have bowled there I have had only one incident with a small chip on a Speed Zone. The pro shop fixxed it and you could hardly see the repair. Hope this is what you were looking for as far as replies Doug.

Sorry I call him a "DA" = Dumb A--. I wouldn't step foot in a place that has chewed up that much of my equipment especially when the end result was nothing by the house. Sorry don't feel sorry for him. (Alright maybe a little) Whats sad is the proprietors action. Bad business if he is a regular to either the house or the pro-shop.

personally, if a house damages a ball, and offers no remedy to the problem, i never set foot in that house again, and I make sure that I divert my business, and others that I know to a competitors house, that maintains their equipment better.

There are a few houses around here that I can say with confidence that I will never set a bowling ball down on their lanes again.

Thanks guys...the only problem is the house is the one where my pro shop is located and the bowler was me :-)

Oh well....I shot 550 withthe ball on the Classic pattern tonight so I guess it'll be ok....

Thanks...just wanted opinions.

Doug,

I think it's pretty crappy, but I'll go you one better.  The owner of the house I bowl in will pick and choose whose equipment gets fixed, whose gets replaced, and whose gets nothing at all.

Several times people have had balls damaged at our house.  It's inevitable.  A screw comes loose, a bolt backs out, and next thing you know, you have a big gash out of your ball.  Here is where it gets bad.

If you have money, or are a "bigshot" around town, you will have no problem getting the ball replaced with a brand new one.  Seen it done quite a few times.

If you are not the bigshot type, but are a good bowler who can influence others to leave, you too will get pretty good service, but not as good as the bigshot guy.

If you fall into any other category, you may be told that " We are not liable for damage to your bowling ball.  Bowling balls are pretty, but they are scatched and chipped during normal use and we cannot be liable for incidental damage that occurs during normal use."

You may think this is a crock, but it's true.
