Hello Bowling Fam,
I am tired of the IQ tour leaving 1 pin. Is there another ball out here with the same control and motion as the IQ tour and take down all 10(you all know what I am talking about)? It do not have to be storm or one certain brand. Thank you in advance.
-
Radical Intel
Motiv Venom Shock (solid)
Motiv Venom Cobra (hybrid)
Motiv Venom Shock Pearl
A few choices if you want to stick to similar ball motion. Not identical, but very similar.
-
For the same look (maybe a bit stronger), go get yourself an X2.
-
My IQ Tours are best on house shots with some lane shine and a 5†pin.
-
Quit throwin' that weak-ass shit OP and you'll strike..... :P :P
-
The Game Breaker 2 (GB2) is a better IQ Tour than an IQ Tour. It has the same characteristics of being all about control over a wide variety of conditions, but just does it a little better.
I'm not an IQ Tour basher. The IQ Tour was responsible for getting me two of my Senior Regional cashes. It was my go to ball when things got tough and ugly for several years. But the GB2 takes things up a notch. It's really a special ball.
I have a GB3 on order to take with me to the upcoming PBA50 tournaments in Vegas. I suspect the GB2/GB3 combination will be the primary balls I use throughout the tournaments.
-
Correct answer is the Venom Shock (solid).
-
You can't go wrong with either a Venom Shock/GB2. Win-win either way.
-
Columbia 300 Eruption Pro Blue or GB2
-

Better get them while you can. The x2 and both dct will be discontinued at the end of the month
-
Brunswick Magnitude 035 or Radical Intel. IMO the Intel handles more oil than the 035, but the 035 rolls better with closed-down angles.

Yes, I'm aware of the whole sad sad list. :(

Columbia 300 Eruption Pro Blue or GB2
The Eruption Pro Blue is also a great alternative, and also really close to the IQ Tour. It's my primary THS ball and is just a slight step down from the GB2. I'd only give the nod to the GB2 because it can handle more oil and the cover is very tunable in either direction.
Still, you can't go wrong with either.

Shame, that ball is so good.

I've noticed the same with mine, it was amazing for 20 games. I think mine needs the surface refreshed to like 2k...

Polished mine to get more entry angle and better carry but reaction was kind of meh last time I threw it but was bowling like hammered shit. Will try it again soon before I give up and put it away for sport patterns and no tap bowling. Its a good ball and all but its no Hy-Road on THS.

I had my first order all ready to send in, and I found out what was discontinued. 4 balls off my first order. Until Bowl Expo, I'm ordering both Badgers, a Shadow Ops, and a Boost to go with my DCT pearl and second On. I may put a Truth Tour in there too.

Iq on THS??? Never!!! That's the hyroads forte.....
The tour is for sport!!!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned how good the GB3 is. It's a much stronger version of the GB2, so when you're in the oil a bit more, it still carries very well, and does a good job of picking up the slack of an IQ. Between it and a Hyroad, not much more is needed for a THS unless they get really fried, but when the track burns up I like to grab the GB3 and move into more oil. It's not a big ball like a Sure Lock or Rip'd, but just right for house conditions. I will say too that the X2 is right there with it, so either one should be a good choice for a less lazy IQ.

Yep and since I am a THS hack I continue to try and fit a square peg into round hole because of that nearly top shelf price. Guess long story short bought that ball before I was ready for it. Venom Shock and Hy-Road are much more house hack friendly and significantly cheaper as well so can't recommend them enough.

GB3 is in the realm with the Idol. Both the GB3 and the Idol are leaps and bounds more aggresive than the IQ Tour and GB2 so i don't consider them to be control balls. GB2 is definitely my vote especially with a slower response layout.

I throw mostly storm and Roto. I have drilled 2 honey badgers, badger, dct pearl and x2 and those balls roll exceptionally well especially both badgers. I think the dct series was discontinued because you couldn’t use the vise it system. Don’t know about x2 but that ball rolls really good

Get an X2 or a Mag.035 and I guarantee you'll be in hog heaven again! Both of those balls carry very well!

Thank you bowling family. yes I am a house hack and this ball just frustrates me. I will take all ball recommendations and do some homework. Thanks again

To be clear, OP I was just joking in my previous comment. It sounds like you just need a little more diff. My IQ solid is pretty condition specific and is more, TO ME, a bail out ball on super difficult stuff where 9/ is a good frame. If you're trying to create offense though and you need to strike there is more likely a better option.
-
Torrent is very close, but should carry the 10. Same with an Ink.

This is why I've been hesitant to recommend the IQ Tour to newer bowlers recently, it can definitely be frustrating. I think it's due to the lower differential and length of the cover if you don't keep up on the maintenance plus most newer bowlers aren't doing tournaments with flat patterns that the IQ Tour excels on
I've recommended the Brunswick Edge Solid or the Game Breaker 2
-
I have both the IQ Tour and the RocketShip.......I think the RocketShip may be what OP is after with a little higher RG and a little more diff, same cover.
Their similar in a lot of ways I just get a little more tip down lane with the RocketShip.

I might have to pick up an X2 before they go away. I already have a Lochness Monster (and Venom Shock), but this ball looks to be too good to pass up. I'm really liking the motions I'm seeing out of the 900 Global family.
Shadow Ops has been my go to ball a lot lately. We're currently bowling on the new Cheetah in our PBA league. It has worked quite well through 2 weeks. Also working pretty good on the house shot, as it is playing really weird this summer so far. Having a tough time creating area with resin until late. Also have the two badgers and the first 3 Monster releases (plus the Vamp sitting at my mom's - just waiting for her to bring it across the border).
Looking to get 2-3 more 900 Global balls for sure.

Shadow Ops is going to be one of my favorites. On the fresh house shots around me, my Booyah is just a little less than I need. SO looks to be about 4 boards stronger without jumping hard when it sees friction.

Excellent analysis. As far as the GB2 goes, for anyone with any doubts, watch Shannon O'Keefe win the recent PWBA Queens using 2 GB2s with different layouts. The condition was touchy, and the GB2 balls smoothed out ball motion with a look the other players didn't have. Again, a better IQ Tour than the IQ Tour.

It is an amazing ball. I went to practice last night with resin - and we had fresh oil - and no luck. Just too much inside hook on the house shot right now. Tried 6 balls from all over the lane. Just can't find hold. Swing it too much and no recovery. Basically like bowling on sport. So eventually I gave in and switched to my Shadow Ops. After not one turkey (and few doubles) with resin, I put up a 5 bagger from the first shot. Not quite as strong as my Hot Cell, but I feel it shapes up better for me overall.
I did end up getting my PSO to order me a X2. He said they are already marked as discontinued from his one supplier and they only had 5 or so 14s in stock. I'm thinking about putting a 2" pin axis layout on it to give me a more urethane-like reaction. I used to be all about skid/flip, but now I'm the opposite.

I'm going to be honest here. Put your favorite layout on it. I personally wouldn't recommend a 2 inch pin to pap on that weight block. My X with a 5 inch pin to pap never jumps on me. I feel like laying that core down would make it too condition sensitive, especially with you having a Hot Cell and Shadow Ops in the bag.

I already have some other benchmark balls (Venom Shock, Lochness Monster) with different layouts on them. 4x4x2 on the Lochness. Forget what the Shock is. Maybe 4x4x3. I have the Villain with a 5"+ pin to pap pin down layout that is pretty smooth as well. I have nothing with a pin axis layout and I'm not opposed to having a condition specific ball. Something that gives a little more traction in the oil, but shapes similarly to the urethane balls might be the ticket. I've put the same layout on the DV8 Marauder and DV8 Freakshow in the past and those balls ended up being great control balls on THS. I know the core is not the same as those balls, but I thought it would be worth the try.

Touche. If you go into it knowing that it is a test, that's totally doable.

Yep, I agree. Very low flare balls often don't work on T Hats!
Especially if one finds the best line requires one to aim away from the pocket! The extra flare needed to strike is often contained in medium to higher flare balls.
Also many drillers put weak pin drillings on weak flare balls and then kick the cg or mass bias out. This often creates midlane but without enough recovery flare due to the very low portion used of the already low horsepower cores motor, so as not to get back to the pocket with enough authority!
I often see 5 1/2 inch pin to pap drillings on low flare balls and for some of the big hands boys it is ok. For many of the tweeners and strokers it is like taking a 4 cylinder engine and restricting yourself to 2 cylinders and saying...Wheres the power!
I have seen strokers start copying "pro tour drillings" to reduce flare and immediately lose 20 pins in average which are never recoverd.
Many drillers know this. That you put weak drillings on higher flare balls and stronger drillings on weaker flare balls to cover mediums. Others don't.
Good luck!
Great balls like the Danger Zone Vintages and Radical Xenos etc. (A million others with over .35 and less than .56 diff) Can make many of your house dreams come true.
These strongish balls with proper flare setups will allow one to play in the oil and have enough recovery to drive with authority!

I don't know but for whatever reason I swear my Venom Shock out hooks nearly any other ball in my bag (Quantum Green aside) playing near the track on THS, even with its low diff. Granted put a very aggressive layout with a double thumb but even with 4000 grit I find myself having to move left more than normal as by the third game that ball starts to grab almost too hard. I have very high tilt which may have to do with it but I totally disagree on the total hook BJI and BTM gave that ball. Sneaky strong at least for me.

This is my issue right now on our house shot: there isn't enough oil in the middle! I bowled practice on fresh the other night and it was a nightmare with resin. I could not keep my Rip'd Solid right of the head pin unless I fired it out wide - but that rolled out. I got as far as 4th arrow at the arrows and gave up trying (I rarely ever get that deep). Rip'd Hybrid was a bit better since it goes down longer, but anything left of 9 at the break point was punching the nose or brooklyn. Too much hang outside of 6-7. Also had no luck with the Lochness, Badger, Venom Shock and Shock Pearl. The window was tight and it has been the last couple weeks. Playing too much like a sport shot.
Bottom line, I have plenty of balls that will work on a normal house shot. I have balls that will work on sport shots too. Here's the main problem. Our provincial tournament is being hosted by this same house this year. I'm in with a 214 average. So far, I have yet to put up a 600. This includes the tournament and summer league. I keep trying to go to resin and make it work. Not happening. Shadow Ops has bailed me out from some really bad series, but for some reason I keep going back to resin. Not happening this weekend.
That said, having a benchmark ball with a low flare layout would definitely be useful when urethane gets too over/under. Beyond how our house shot plays right now, I do bowl on sport shots often enough. Bowling a PBA league this summer as well.

Oh Jazlar,
I was posting my response all based on the original posters desire to stop leaving a pin with the low diff IQ Tour solid!
Often the reason, too weak a drilling for this ball with medium low horsepower.
Interesting Jazlar, your condition sounds a lot like my league conditions. Dry in the middle with out of bounds at 40 feet at board 9. As I like to call in an "unintentional reverse block". Ours does have oil to the arrows starting between 3 to 4 feet over the foul line!
My difference is when playing the 4th arrow (pretty deep for a lefty using my newly learned weaker hand position) it seems I need a little speed off the break point from a reactive. In my case a weaker cored low strength assymmetric solid.
With no oil in the heads I can see why a 20% urethane pearl with an assymetric core can work.
I have also seen the black widow hammer urethane and the Burgundy hammer with flexane(that looked great for a smooth reaction off the dry).
Oil in the middle with too fast a reaction off the sides I think the two hammer urethanes are great. Less volume in the middle that Shadow Ops sounds great!
Regards,
Luckylefty
PS today I threw the DV8 Green Misfit Solid, I swear that is about a 50/50 mix of urethane and reactive! Very Very smooth and readable! Almost similar to the Burgundy Hammer I saw score an easy 279 on a jumpy house shot!
