An old Faball Syntactive Sledgehammer undrilled! Apparently, people did not like this ball very much. Has anyone ever thrown this ball before?
-
Theres a reason you found it.
-
I don't plan on ever trying it out especially since it is a high 15 lbs ball. How bad was the reaction? I'm curious...
-
Back when they first came out, one of our actually good bowlers (bowled on tour for a while good) got one. He was averaging about 215 at the time.
Ball would read earlier than anything had a right to, burn up in the mids, and sometimes not even make it back to the pocket.
And when it did, it hit like a marshmallow. Almost.
He bowled with it for several weeks before finally giving up on it. Dont think he EVER broke 200 with it.
And to top it off, its the only one I ever saw used. Everybody else that got one gave up on it so quick that it was history by the time travel league rolled around again.

The original Sledgehammer was very good, but this version with the particle cover will be somewhat less versatile. Most particle balls needed oil to perform well. Some of us made them better with some polish (for THS).
Particle balls were always easy to get to the pocket, but sometimes their carry suffered when used on too much friction. Since you bought it why not drill it up and save it for tougher conditions and see. You will never really know unless you try it.

Agreed. It almost hooked in the air. It handled hyper-heavy oil and only that.

Agreed, also.
The Sledgehammer was for light-medium to almost medium oil, about 372 steps below the Syntactive in oil handling. :)
I'm surprised more people didn't use and love the Sledge; it was as versatile and as carry positive as the Hy-Road, in my opinion. I think they could sell 4 or 5,000 of them today, if anyone could make one.

I'd totally throw another Sledgehammer. Bring that and the Spike back and they'd sell like hot cakes.
I had a 4D particle and that ball was like urethane. Good gravy.

i thought about that old sledgehammer when i saw it. also saw that faball falcon r

Well, it sounds like a combination of a very early roll combined with very poor axis rotation retention for a lot of bowlers. With that being said, I am one of the weirdos who can get an Ebonite Riptide to work on a heavy 1 to 1 pattern keeping the ball in front of me. The Syntactive Sledgehammer cannot be any worse than the Riptide or Tombstone can it?

No, dear God no.

I finally threw the Syntactive after some growing curiousity. It is not NEARLY as bad the the Ebonite Riptide. Funny thing is that the Syntactive Sledgehammer seems urethane-like in its curve as well. Very early and slow arcing. By the way, tell me about the 4D particle. How was it different than the Syntactive?

I loved my Crimson Red Sledgehammer. It was very very good to me. MB on PAP!
But everything about the Syntactic is true as Stated.
This being a lefty who still loves Particles, still my favorite heavy Oil league shot ball a Reaction Roll, And I've loved the lighter oil Brunswick Pro Zone Violet.
However this Syntactic looked like too much Particle Load even with lots of Volume. Maybe some polish.

+1 to TEC balls OOB. Got a second hand Rock On LE and pretty obvious has some TEC death but even today its plenty of ball for most house shots.
