Q for Jeff Carter or anyone using a golf glove...
« on: April 04, 2007, 02:28:20 PM »
Today I finally bought a golf glove, but I didn't find a thumbless one. Now I saw again Jeff Carter's video and he sure uses a thumbless one. The question is do you just simply cut the thumb from the glove? It's a fine piece of equipment and I would not like to spoil it. Thank you in advance for all the comments.

Not to hijack, but Jeff what does the glove do as far as feeling in the ball???
or should I say feeling for the hand? Hell I am not sure what I am trying to say?

in other words why do you use it?? other than wear and tear on your hand? or is that the major reason??

Buzzhead - i have a skin condition on my hands that makes them extremely dry, which in turns makes them split and crack very easily. It is basically on 3 fingers on my left hand and 4 on my right. Without the glove, my fingertips would split easily and i would have blood everywhere all the time. For a while i used Turbos protecting tape, and that helped but when i peeled the tape off it would take a layer of skin with it. Finally Tracey Weber talked me into trying the glove and i've been using it since ( its been a year and a half now )

Not to try to take away from one of Jeff's sponsors -- especially since Etonic is my golf glove of choice when I play that sport -- but Ebonite already makes this product specifically for bowling.

It's called the ProTector glove, and it's a material very similar to black cabretta leather with red trim. It has the four fingers but no thumb. Also, it has tiny velcro straps on fingers 3 and 4 that you can cinch up so the torque of your release doesn't pull the glove off your hand.

I started using one about three seasons ago to try to lessen the callouses I was getting on the pads of my fingers, and also as a means of controlling the effects of sweat on my hand. The glove dissipates the sweat, and has allowed my fingertips to remain soft.

It lessens my feel in the ball slightly but not too much. Also, one glove will last me nearly an entire league season. The material feels just like cabretta but I'm guessing it's a synthetic, so it could be made to withstand more friction and sweat, long-term, than most golf gloves can.

Surprisingly, the cost is about the same or less than a good golf glove -- about $15 to $20. The only downside is that few pro shops stock this glove and it's a special-order item.

Jeff, try to get Etonic to make something like this in the future. The Ebonite product is great but they don't market it very well. I think Etonic could corner the market easily if it tried.

Jess, we've had discussions already and it is a possibility. The only problem is that the demand isnt quite high enough to produce large quantities in multiple sizes. There may be some options available in the future though
