Idiot Bowler
« on: March 16, 2009, 03:51:32 AM »
I can't beleive what happened in league. A guy with eleven in a ROW decides he is going to get an 8 count on his last ball. WHY? HE WANTED A 298 RING!!!

WELL THE DUMB #%#^ GETS HIS 8 COUNT, then finds out there is NO 298 RING!!

THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY!! He was steamed about it.

But this ticks me off....people like this should lose their USBC card.

If you drop the issue of whether or not he has the right to throw off on his last shot.

This to me is another reason why bowling is perceived to have no integrity.

I can’t think of another game where the participant would intentionally mess up late so that perfection would not be achieved unless it was to help his team win.

9,

As a bowler I thought it was about bowling your best on every ball.

Is it okay for someone to throw for a 8 or 7 count on their last ball to try for a triplicate score.

Or go for a Spare Count to get the DUTCH 200 achievement!!

How about someone not striking in the 10th to try for a ALL Spare Game? Eventhough his team might need him to strike. Hey its his goal...its all about him, right?

What kind of message is a bowler like this sending to other bowlers who don't have a 300?

It's basically stating 300 games are boring to that person any more and now they need to get every 290 something score because that's the challenge NOW!!

I guess a 292 is harder to get than a 300. USBC should abolish the 300 ring and now have the 292 RING!!!

A "300" used to mean something (PERFECTION!)...OBVIOUSLY IT DOESN'T NOW!!! So lets stop giving awards and recognizing them.

THE SHOT NEEDS TO GET TOUGH! To me this guy is a disgrace to the sport of bowling.

I really don't care that he throw the game for the 298 I think it is funny that he can't get the award.

As far as your talk about always trying to get the best score possible everytime that is a tough argument, I really don't try Super hard in league, not nearly as hard as I do tourneys. Not every bowler bowls to shot scores everytime he picks up the ball, some just bowl so they have a average to bowl tourneys. I really dont give a crap what I shot in league, is that a bad attitude? I bowl league to have a good time with some of my best friends not put up the huge score. If I wanted the huge score I would bowl at a easier house.

My question to you is this, Am I a disgrace because I go and bowl and don't care much about the score? Am I a disgrace because I dont try as hard as I probably should in leagues?

You can be if you use that "I don't care" average as a basis of bowling tournaments and having a lower average for handicap reasons.

But in all honesty, so he shot 298.  I have argued before not shooting your best on every shot is a form of sandbagging, but most don't care.  A lot of people are hypocritical when they scream foul of the obvious forms of sandbagging but are quick to bowl only with a plastic ball in league or only bowl to have fun and don't care about their average but still bowl tournaments on their "drunk" average.

I was also making the assumption the outcome of the game was not close enough that 2 pins would make a difference.

As for the triplicate, I see no problem with that either.

Some bowlers who are much better than me need something to shoot for.  If this guy has multiple 300's, then another probably doesn't mean quite as much since he's "Been there, done that".  So mabe some guys feel the need to shoot for different awards that they don't already have?  I would if I was good enough to do it.

Mainzer,

I agree with spm.....you are a disgrace if you "don't care" about your leagues scores to intentionally lower your average for tournaments.  That's called sandbagging.

9,

The guy has two 300 games, one 299, and now a 298. It sounded like the way he is talking the next one is going to be a 297. That's his goal alright. He wants to say that he has shot all 290 - 300 games.

I am thinking when he gets down below 5 it is really going to look strange to those watching when he shows signs of success shooting a 1, 2 or 3.

I think leagues as a general rule are a waste of time. I bowl in them to carry an average if the average is low okay, if it is high fine to whatever. Where do you bowl in Madison? You bowl the Flat World league, at Falcon? I bowl in Oshkosh WI at T&O Lanes. I bowl ABT Milwaukee tour on weekends.

Trash Heap in response to your question, if we are bowling for the win I will do anything in my power to win. but it is just a league, and leagues really don't matter so if we win good cool awesome, If we lose, oh well no big deal either. I

Don't you like to compete? What's the point of going to league if you don't compete? I'm in a mix league now but I used to be in plenty of other leagues and tournaments...but regardless of what league or tournament I was in, I tried to do my best.

That's what I did. That's what I have been taught. Always try to do your best. Play within the rules. Don't cheat. Bowling, Golf, Football, Work and Life.

Please answer this question.

You are in a Regional Tournament (total of 8 games). You are starting the 8th game and there is no chance of you cashing. What do you do?

Yes i do like to compete and i do try my best, but what are 2 pins out of a game in reality? Nothing unless the game's that close. If it was that close and he caused the team to lose the match then yes there's a problem there. But if that's not the case then why the hell do you care? I mean really, are you that mad because he purposely missed 2 pins that wont show up on his avg? Give me a break, it just seems like you're either jealous or just need something to piss and moan about.

Most of you are missing the point: the rationale of trying to get a ring that no longer exist is hilarious.

You're incorrect, the ring does indeed exist.

Funny story about a local here in Bradenton, FL.. Kent Wagner (Lisa Wagners husband) who had dozens if not over a hundred 300's I think at one point, and decided to get every 29X possible.

The only one he had left was 292 and he got it by rolling a 6 pound ball down lane to clip the 6-10 off.

Mainzer, I believe in Wisconsin you do NOT need a league average to bowl local/state tournaments.  You purchase an unaffiliated USBC card and they rank you with the highest average(if a non-scratch tournament).

One way not mentioned to stay motivated in league is to enter all pot games and brackets.

I bowl ABT's so i need an average from last season to bowl in that cause I didn't bowl an ABT last year. But I will look into that it would be nice just to sub where ever I want not be commited one night a week.

Thx Sticks!

When you stop and think of all of the league bowlers out there whose one dream is to know what it's like to roll a 300 game, and then we have this bowler who intentionally rolls a 298, I think it's a slap in the face to someone who may never know what it's like to be standing on the approach with the front 11.  I think it was wrong.
