Title: If A Bowling Ball Is A Tool...
Post by: bcw1969 on September 13, 2017, 07:40:59 PM
Bowling balls are often referred to as a tool. If that is true, how come some people are criticized for wanting to find the right/best tool for the job??? Sure, I can take flathead screwdriver and tighten a Phillips screw , but a Phillips head screwdriver is better suited for the job and can do it easier.

Because a lot of people bring their whole tool chest to unscrew the same 2 screws every week.

Most keep buying tools without investing in ones abilities.

Okay, you get a thumbs up for that! That's one of the best replies I've seen.

It shouldn't take 5 different tools to screw one simple bolt in place.

Finally decided on my league tool chest having only a pin down IQ Tour, a pin up Hy-Road and a Blue Hammer.  Have a shit ton of others especially urethane balls because I enjoy throwing them, don't have many other hobbies, and still cheaper to own a closet of bowling balls than a boat.  Only buy a few balls to score with and the rest to roll for fun.  But its good not to be that guy at league at least.

That sounds like a strong lineup. I really loved my blue hammer back in junior league in the 80's ;)

I probably average nearly as high with my urethane considering urethane or reactive throw a lot more 2nd balls than I should.  If I wasn't able to put up clean games as consistently would probably throw both in a lake.  Still considering at like 15 or 16 balls total guessing might be on the low end compared to some of the folks on here.

I used to have a pretty large collection myself, but since I rededicated and altered my style due to health reasons, I only use the spare ball and the Hy-Road right now, with most likely a Code Red in the very near future. I do have a NIB Sinister that I am saving for a long oil sport pattern tourney I may bowl in in the spring...had it a long time, just wasn't ready to use it yet, lol.

Our league shot changes frequently as the proprietor keeps tweaking the shot due to changes in the weather and changes in lane oil.  We bowled last night and we bowl tonight as well.  He said "the shot you bowled on tonight will be different from what you bowl on tomorrow night".  I usually take an extra ball or two due to the changes.

I can't understand the issue this seems to bring to others. who cares if somebody just like to thrpw a lot of different stuff? For me half the fun is contemplating bowling balls and throwing new stuff

I don't think it's an "issue", I think it just brings comedy to a lot of us.

who cares if somebody just like to thrpw a lot of different stuff?

No one "cares", you do you.

For me half the fun is contemplating bowling balls and throwing new stuff

Manufacturers, you hear this?   :P

Posts like these is why some of us (DOOM!  :P  :-X ) always make the little comical jabs.

Comical?? I was being serious, and a little less caustic than northface!!

Don't get me wrong, I like visiting the snap on truck when it rolls into town, but I don't need to hijack it and bring it with me to change a tire, no matter how prepared I'd feel.

But I like to show my toolbag off too, don't get me wrong! Time and a place for everything!

Here is a good way to put it... Bowling balls is bowling, as a engine is to a car; A body of a car is NOTHING without the engine. There you go balls are sexy on the lanes.  ;D

Just don't show off your ballbag.  That might be crossing the line.

Having a toolbox full of tools doesn't make you a mechanic.....................::)

It shouldn't take 5 different tools to screw one simple bolt in place.

It might if that bolt gets bent and/or stripped. Or maybe rusty. Which is what basically happens to the lanes. And as someone mentioned previously, some houses never play the same week to week.

>some houses never play the same week to week.

Not allowed here in corporate AMF/Brunswick land.  They have weekly conference calls to make sure the life is sucked out of every house to make them as generic as possible (except for one the by the University whose lanes just plain get beat to sh1t).

I'll admit it I have a problem, I am a ball junkie..... I own them so I bring them... Most of the time 3 may make it out of the bag, a spare plastic, and 2 others. My problem now is I am bowling multiple houses and the shot is nothing alike after a few weeks. And that is actually fun but I do have a problem with buying balls I dont need but usually get a deal buying from a couple tournament players who only use their stuff for 20 games.

>I am a ball junkie..... I own them so I bring them...

Bah you are not a ball junkie until you are mothballing them in boxes with plastic in the garage with no immediate plans to throw some of them any time soon.   ;)
