Got a new pro to drill my equipment. Looked at one of my balls that my previous guy drilled weighed it and said it was illegal. Too much finger weight. Took it back to my first driller and he said ball is legal. What do I do? I go to a pro cause I dont understand all that crap. Maybe get a third person to weigh it?

Did they say by how much? I have heard some scales differ shop to shop...
Old PSG could be right and the new guy is trying to exercise his abilities to ensure u only go to him.
Old PSG could be wrong and is too lazy to fix it, or won't admit he's wrong.
I have had both of these types of PSG's ...needless to say neither are in business.

If possible, have both show you how they determined if it was legal or not. It could be that one of them have scales that need calibration. Also, balls can add or lose weight depending on the temp, humidity etc.

do you use switch grips? had a guy claim that a team mates ball was illegal at an ABT tourney. the guy weighing the ball took his thumb out of the switch grip and weighed it w/o a thumb. said it was like 1/8 oz too much finger weight. weigh it with thumb inserted and the ball was legal.
Don't use switch grips myself, but always thought that for measuring static weights the thumb needed to be in the ball.

I think the new guy said an ounce. The old pro said your allowed 3 ounces from top to bottom. Heck I dont know. I do know the ball seems to skid a lot and not get into a roll til well past the arrows then makes a left turn. Dont know if that means anything.

pretty sure we are only allowed 1 ounce difference between hemispheres. 1 ounce side to side, and 1 ounce finger to thumbs. the 3 ounces is for top weight

You are allowed 1 ounce of finger or thumb weight, but a total of 3 ounces of topweight.
If it has 1 ounce of finger weight, and not more than 3 ounces topweight, it is legal.
You are allowed small imbalances in the ball. You are allowed:
1. One ounce of weight on any SIDE of the ball
2. Three ounces of weight on the top of the ball
3. You are allowed up to one ounce of either finger, or thumb, weight.
It helps to think of the ball as if it were a box. A box has four sides, a top, and a bottom.
It is not unusual to have one weight be OK, but have another be illegal. Such an occasion would be having a ball with three ounces topweight (which is ok), but also having over one ounce finger weight ( which is NOT ok ). In that case, the finger weight would have to be adjusted to within the one ounce mark.

You cannot just look at a ball and say it is illegal. You can guess that it may, on average, be legal or illegal. This is because you can't know what the starting top weight is. In any case, to know, you HAVE to measure.
