ball starting to crack
« on: January 03, 2009, 07:48:26 AM »
is there anything that i can do to prevent my ball from cracking anymore than it has already. a friend of mine said to put super glue in the crack and that might work. any advice would be helpful or it is the death of my bowling ball.

Depending on where its starting to crack and how big the crack is already will depend on stopping it or not. Take it to your proshop and tell him to drill out the crack and plug it all up and then redrill your finger, thumb, or axis hole. This should save the ball and your wallet.

In music trade, we drill a stop hole in cymbals that are cracked.  But that crack is through the entire depth of the cymbal and the hole stops it from continuing.

In a bowling ball, you have cracks that are NOT all the way through the ball.  Therefore, I would not believe that a stop hole would be any help.  In bowling balls there are a couple of regions of depth.  Once the inner core has been broached by a crack, the ball cannot ever be made "solid" enough to be effectual.  You can still use it because it can still roll.  But the dynamics of the ball are definately effected.

well, if it's just some fractures around the fingers or thumb, they shouldn't be to big of an issue for a while. If it's a crack that has started to go around the ball, it's done. I have 2 balls that started cracking last year while sitting on the ball rack in my heated basement. I looked at them yesterday, they are cracked in numerous places around the ball. Best bet would be to replace it. If by chance it's a newer ball or something your proshop drilled less that a year ago, you may be able to contact the manufacturer for a replacement. Regardless, I would email the manufacturer anyway, It cant hurt.

Cobrawolf,

Had an Inferno start cracking on me.  Had the shop drill very small stop drill holes on BOTH ENDS of the crack ( it wasn't touching any holes ) and plug the small holes AND the crack.

That was 2 years ago. I still have the ball, I shot an 812 with it, and the crack was in my track, albeit on the back side of the ball.

If the crack isn't over 2-3 inches long, they should be able to fix it.
