Interesting PM from member.
« on: November 17, 2005, 02:15:53 PM »
Not long ago, I've just received a PM from another member. I will do the courtesy not to name who that member is, but he seemed to try and make me feel guilty about going to Buddies Pro Shop.

He questions me about why I go to buddies only for their prices. He also mentioned that he'd never go to buddies ever.

This guy can quite possibly be a disgruntled pro shop owner? Or possibly someone who has had a bad experience with buddies?

I just don't understand what is so wrong with wanting to save some money. Balls over at Buddies have been at least $40 cheaper as well as other accessories. There isn't anything to be ashamed of, as if I was made of money. I am not.

I'm not going to judge you on using an online proshop, but let me ask a question.  It is getting harder and harder for brick and mortor shops (pro shops and stores in other industries) to the point where many are closing their doors.  Well, what do you do when you absolutley have to have something done "right now" and there is no shop to go to?  Sure, you can blame the owners for poor business practices, which cause them to lose money, but a small shop simply can't compete on cost with an online shop...the volume discounts given to online stores is almost unfathomable.  And then (I know, I said one question), what happens when all the brick and mortor competition is gone, could prices possibly <read definatley> go up?

I dread the day that I can't go into my local pro shop to buy a ball, get some advice, or just shoot the "stuff" (I can't even come close to putting a dollar value on the service side of things I've received over the years that I was never charged for), and I'm afraid that's the direction things are going.  That's why a lot of people are so anti online pro shop.

Actually Buddies Pro shop is little more than an Hour away from where I live. I've purchased all my goods from there in person and never from online.

DanH, you do make a good point about all the other pro shops going out of business because of online pro shops prices. The proshops around me are still in business. But I do know a few bowlers who make the trip just like I do to Buddies pro shop. The cost of gas, housing, and just plain living in my neck of the woods is skyrocketing. Shopping at Walmart and Buddies pro shop does make sense.

Due to happen in the uk,
online electical stores are going to be charged more per item from certain manufactures (sony i believe).

They say it is because they have a reward scheme for shops that can showcase their wares.

maybe this should move to the bowling scene.

The only question about this, what about stores that have shops and online stores.... like commet,dixons,etc...
