Is anyone else dreading the start of leagues?
« on: August 01, 2019, 07:02:10 AM »
My Wed nite league starts Aug 22nd ...... The LAST thing I want to do in August is be inside a bowling alley.  34 weeks -- UGH.  After 30 years of this stuff, I'm almost ready to hang it up.  The issue is, once it gets cold, dark and nasty outside I will miss it.

Why can leagues start when we roll the clocks back and end when we roll them forward -- that would be perfect.  8)

Yeah my league starting sooner than I want but glad season is long as I only bowl it for the league card and the cheap open bowling rate.  Pre-bowl most weeks anyway (just for fun triples league).  Saves me a ton of money.
Here today.  Gone tomorrow.

We had a summer league from July 11th to September 11th on Sunday nights in Boston area

Damn right I passed on that. I don't ski or bowl in the summer

Perfect for you, but not the proprietor who has to keep the doors open year round.

If one of my teammates was on the fence like you, I'd encourage him to pass. I only want to bowl with people who want to be there, and want to win.

Not at all.  Its a 20 week scratch doubles league that starts in September.  We bowl four games and are in and out in about 2 hours.

Can't wait for it to start…… laughing at the 36 week leagues starting up this week and next. Enjoy that 9 month grind

I need a league like this. The grind of all those weeks, 4 man teams, starting at 7:30 not getting done until 10:30/11, Im exhausted just thinking about it.

Exactly. Even worse with 5 men leagues.

USBC and proprietors can't figure out why leagues are shrinking

I always look forward to the start of league season.
Our Tuesday night league has 54 5-man teams this year, with 3 or 4 current or former PBA bowlers and a high number of top quality bowlers. Should make for a very competitive league. This will be the largest league I've ever bowled in - last year it was 46 teams.

Our anchor man may not be returning but I am still looking forward to the start of the season. made an inventive change to my bowling over the summer and really want to see how I do. Last season our Thursday nite mixed league filled up all 56 lanes....during the spring we became an amf/bowlero center, but I am told we will have at least mid-high 40's for teams..so that's neat.

I must be a wierdo or something! I'm with you! I always look forward to the start of  league season!

I will tell you this though......one of my 5 leagues has only 32 weeks in it, and that is very satisfying!
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

Your not weird man, I can't wait to start. I bowl a 3 man scratch league that has 4 seven week quarters, and a 4 man travel league with 33 weeks. 3 months off is plenty!

Could not have said it better myself.
I can't wait for the start of the season (August 21st.)  We took second place (both halves) last season.  First place is on our radar for this season, so the team is super pumped. Let's get it on!

Eh, for me........it's yes and no.

I dread the time where it gets dark at like 4:30PM and I get home from work, take care of things, then head out when it "feels" like it's midnight but it's only like 6:20 or so.

I do enjoy a lot of the people I bowl with.  I've bowled with one of the best bowlers in NKY/Cincy history (a HOF'er) for something like 15-16 years now and I try not to take that for granted.

I do wish league were on sport conditions or was a traveling league, that would be fun.  I haven't done that since the youth days.

My Friday team is moving houses.  Smaller 16 lane house but there are some players and $ in play.....I like that.  Change of scenery will be nice.

So, for me, there are pros and cons.  I truly see both sides on this topic.

Post labor day, end on April 1stish.... The only issue with that is I don't like to go to Nationals until May and when League stop I get out of practice quick.... Especially like timing-wise.

But yes I'm dreading the startup. 😂😂

I don't dread the bowling part.

I do dread dealing with people on the league who forget their primary task is to bowl when it is their turn.  It is pretty simple.  When your name comes up, get up and bowl.  Your teammates, food, drinks, and phone will be waiting for you when you get done with your frame.  Bowling wouldn't take 3 hours if people are ready to go when it is their turn.

Being ready isn't getting up from your table on the concourse when it's your turn.  Being ready is greeting your teammate as they come off the approach.
