I just got 2 boxes of 20 each 4000 grit Abralon pads delivered from California for $50! That is an old fashioned steal; I never expected them to go for so little. It must be below wholsale, since www.SUPERGRIT.com, the cheapest internet/catalog dealer, sells them for $60 PLUS shipping, per box of 20.
I can only assume the other bidders stopped when they did was because the auction was only for 1 box. I asked the seller who said it was for both boxes.

That's a deal, not many folks will use that many 4000's, but you sure got a deal there !

I was watching that auction and I was tempted to bid but that would be a lifetime supply of 4000 pads for me. I'm glad they went to a bowler!

I don't know about you guys, but I have a few balls with a 4000 grit finish, and they need touching up quite regularly. 4000 grit Abralons do not do many balls per pad. I have tried it on a few balls, and 8 - 9 out of 10 balls take to it very well, but they take a bit of doing to experiment up and down to get there where I'd like them to be.
2 boxes will last me a couple of years, I hope!

John,
Sorry but these "finds" are too precious to share. I've already sold 2 - 4 batches of Abralon pads and given away a few more and let me tell you, at the rate of finding these EXPENSIVE toys, I'd like to keep what I have. Sorry. Deals are few and far between. My only point was they are out there; this was an especially sweet one, as a few have noted.
FYI I still feel that either 3M or their distributors are ripping people off on the price odf these things. Or the "market" is not yet seeking its level. Whatever, they are far too expensive for what they are.
I figure they should retail for around a $1.50 per, putting them at $1.00 more than an equivalent piece of sandpaper, and that's a high profit, indeed!

I echo what azguy said here. I bought 4 of those 4000 Grit pads 3 years ago and still have 3 of them not used yet. Of coarse I don't buy that many balls per year either. I generally only buy 2-4 balls per year and don't own any balls made by Ebonite of whom sands a lot of their balls to 4000 grit. I use mostly 500 and 1000 grit Abralon Pads with a 360 grit used once in a while and polish as needed on all 3 grits.

Folks,
Please don't ask me to sell you Abralon pads. I'd like to, but it took a long time and lot of time and effort to score these beauties. I have sold and given away pads before when I thought I had an excess, spares to share. Turns out I really didn't. While I don't regret giving/sharing them to/with friends, I am not a seller of spare parts. These aren't "extras". Most people know I hate to say "no"; so please don't ask. I had to say, "no", once already. Thanks.

Great find, charlest!
I agree that the 4000 pads wear out quickly so you'll be glad to have them. In fact, it doesn't take that long before a 2000 pad becomes something close to 4000...

Thanks, NC. I was so tempted to say, "I scored ___", but that's an expression I am not fond of.
Maybe I'm too heavy handed with them, but I go thru 2000s and 4000s like water, so to speak.

You can be "whatever handed" you want if your spinner has a good water supply. That's the beauty of abralon and scotch brite pads... the water flows through them which helps create a better looking ball as well as extending (a little) the life of the pad.
Thanks for all your good posts on this site.

What is "hand sanitizer gel"?
I normally "sanitize" my hands with soap and hot water.

Charlest, I'm not sure what he is talking about, but if I were to guess, I would say it is that gel that is in a pump bottle sold at Wal-Mart and many other stores. There are different brands of it. Two that come to mind are Prell and Best Choice. It is especially popular in the winter when the Flu Bug is going around. Many stores around here have it at the check out counter for the customer to use before he leaves the store.

I know, Brick. I was making fun of the current "Z" generation's pseudo-fixation on artifical and exaggerated cleanliness, taken to an absurd degree.
While I appreciate and thank bowlingtoe for his comment, and believe that a gel may have an effect on Abralon's utility, I am not inclined to test it. I trust he believes what he has passed on to us, but there is a degree of diminishing return, taking effect somewhere in here.

I think this topic has gone far afield.
All I wanted to get across to the readers that Ebay is not always the EVIL B*stard that we often think of it. Between it and PayPal, its operating partner, it is possible to get good deals, if you watch and are careful.
I have been burnt when I wasn't careful. I have also been saved by PayPal and Ebay when my userid was compromised. I understand that others have had less good experiences.
Caveat emptor.
I will be locking this topic now. Thank you for all the replies.
