Monster Slump
« on: February 07, 2013, 02:40:33 PM »
I started bowling 7 or 8 years ago and am self taught. I am a left hander with extremely slow speed 12-13 mph and a rev rate between 325-350. For the past 4 years I have carried a 210+ average......this year i am at 170 in 2 different houses. I have a muscled armswing and people keep telling me to free it up. I am stubborn about the fact that I have had success with my awkward style for quite some time. I have no way of posting a vid at the moment, but would like to get some advice on how to free up my swing, i just cant trust gravity it seems my muscles want to do all the work. are there some drills i can do at home that can aid a free swing? at this point i am close to giving up entirely

First things first. You can't have a free armswing if your ball doesn't fit correctly.

Second thing second. You will not be able to be a good judge of what a correct fit is. As a former pro shop operator, I can not tell you how many people would come into me, show me how someone had butchered their grip, and tell me "Yeah, it fits awesome!" while I looked on horrified.

Do you have a good pro shop in the area in which you live? If you don't know of one, you could state the area you live in, and someone here could help find you a good shop near by to have your grip checked.

After that, then the suggestions would be helpful. If you actually HAVE to squeeze because of bad ball fit, all of the suggestions will be for naught, and you will want to quit even more.

Get your fit checked, and then the swing can be addressed.

After you've addressed the fit of your ball, stand in front of a long mirror and watch yourself as you go through the steps and follow through of throwing the ball. This is best done with a ball in hand......however....DO NOT RELEASE THE BALL!  ;) :o
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!
