Title: Just a Noob question

Could someone here explain to me the importance of Pin outs (or ins), and top weight?

All I know is that every ball has a different pin distance from it's center of gravity as well as top weight. What are some desirable combinations and what to look for and not to look for.

Any help here is greatly appreciated.
