Just wanted to know if anybody else is having trouble with there knee on there slide foot. I am really not sure what is causing this problem and i am in good shape..
-
Do you plant at the line, or do you slide some?
-
Does finding out I need knee replacement qualify me for having problems?
I never had any trouble with my knees in the past and had one night at this new house I bowl in with slight sticking on picking up 10 pins. That night my knee swelled up and had to miss my next league.
Things were ok and then right before I left for the Nationals it acted up again and I went and bowled with it hurting and swollen. Went to a bone and joint specialist and found out both knees have to be replaced in the future and the left knee as soon as I can get it scheduled.
X-rays showed both knees were worn and have arthritis in both and I was healthy and didn't have much trouble till just recently.
Oh and I slide some....

I have had knee pain recently. I think mine is patella tendonitis because I feel pain in my patella area. I find that if I rest and stretch it out, the pain goes away. I may invest in a knee brace for the fall league.

I would say I say alide and plant because I have a cloth bottom on my shoes... When I approach the lanes its not in a complete upright position because I am using some of my strenght from my legs.
-
I have a really bad knee problem never gotten it checked out, but i think i might soon. But, I brought a knee brace last season and it works wonders, doesn't hurt when you bowl with it...
-
I just might have to do that.. I just don't get it because do all the leg exercise and I don't feel a thing but after bowling 2 games the knee start coming to play...
-
Mu knee is in a lot worst shape then yours, after a few frames my knees start to hurt and i can barely walk but with the knee brace it feels just fine...
-
i use a soft knee brace and it's works fine for me, but i do feel a LITTLE pain not much at all, if that helps any
-
I have a slight tear in my ACL hurts like hell when i bowl a lot, I have a neo-preen brace and it seems to help, if i don't wait to long to put it on. But man does it sweat
-
i have knee problems, went and had xrays and MRI, but they couldnt find anything. but i take 3 ibuprofen's about 20 mins before and wear the brace. and it works wonders.
this is the one the doctor recommended for me...

Not only that but it creates the most foul odor of all time.
Unfortunately, I have to wear these also. Gotta get the leg strength up...
-
Guys I think this doesn't have to do with strength because I do squats with 225 without any pain or pressure. Leg press over 500 without pressure or pain. I think this is something else like technique with the approach because this doesn't make any sense..
Does the brace affect your technique
-
In my case, I thought it had to be a technique thing but no one can see anything that I am doing wrong. I don't get it.
I've been told by a few people that I just need to work out my legs to help the knees out. In absence of a better solution, that's what I am going with...

Zanatos,
Where is the pain on your knee?? Is it above or below the knee cap? You could be seeing the effects of Patellar Tendonitis. Commonly known as Jumper's Knee, this can happen to bowlers when they are bowling on synthetics and/or hyper-extend their knee at the line by putting their heel down to help them stop.

i agree. i was told that also. i think the pain just comes with age, weight, how much abuse and whatnot. i've had steroid shots to try and help but it only helped a few months and than the pain is back. not as much though. my personal feelings on it is, that i think for me its my weight. im about 60lbs heavier than i was 6 years ago.

After knee surgery and some rehab, I'm still having issues. Sticky approach are my nemesis! The brace I currently use ( http://www.ossur.com/?pageid=2997 ) helps a great deal!!!! I know it seems like a 'robo-knee' but I'm a large, active guy and trust me, knee pain is NO JOKE!!! (I'm not going to discuss the effects of bad weather ... sheesh!)
Now I'm experiencing pain in my right knee (had surgery on left) for compensating. Probably go have that checked as well. Luckily no inflammation, just the typical osteoarthritic condition

When you get to the line are your toes pointing down the lane or towards your bowling hand ? If your twisting your foot you are going to have pain in the knee. Try to insure that your toes point straight down the lane upon completion of your slide. Either slow foot work or start further from the line. That is my problem and when I keep my toes straight I don't have the pain.
EXACTLY!!!! Very well stated and good point!!!! turned foot can lead to meniscus problems and pain. Pressure on the inner part of the knee as well.

Okay
I think it could be a serveral things and I believe the major problem is the twist @ the lane and I know my toes aren't straight.. The pain is on the top of my knee..
Practice this pass weekend and slowed my feet down allot and that seem to help also... Just strange that I only feel it bowling and not in any other sports...
