Title: Lack of new posts in the Equipment Boards section
Post by: duvallite on September 09, 2018, 10:11:01 AM
Just curious why there never seems to be any new threads started in the Equipment section anymore, and haven't been for a while now (except one I did).  Did I miss something and is there a boycott  ;), or is it just a busy time for everyone and not much to say?  With leagues starting, I'd think there would be an uptick in posts there.

It’s called, sadly, facebook.

It has killed off so many other forums it isn’t even funny.

This is exactly what it is unfortunately. It's really sad too, because the search function and general ability to reference old information is incredibly difficult on facebook in comparison to forums. While i'm not old, I feel like it with the move to facebook groups and lack of community feel there.

Time of year and lack of equipment releases at the moment most likely.

Nothing has changed.  New colors or names and the same results on the lane. Strongest this,  most midlane and continuation,  more length and backend,  hits harder,  new ball motion never seen in this price point etc etc.

I think this is it. Same song and dance year after year has taken it's toll on hype. Because that's all there is to it now, hype, not anything truly new or that much better. The industry is already at the ceiling imposed by the equipment specifications. Can't improve much more than it already is and I think at least most of the forum discussion community knows it.

I was moderated and denied last time I went to post a thought/change of opinion back in July. No explanation in my private message or preemptive warning given. But that's Ok with me and I know what I personally did wrong. I haven't tried since and will just participate in moderated and approved post.
That's a bit dissapointing. Users like you, BowlingFor (something, can't remember. Used to be HackJandy), and Avabob are the reason I still come here often.

Yeah I have cut way back on the crap flooding of posts.  Ignorance is bliss until you cringe at some of your old posts later.  Has been quiet lately.  Post I am dreading but know is coming is the official announcement Visionary has moved on.  Stocked up on their stuff big time to scratch my retro itch (and agree with posts above new stuff isn't necessarily better especially on house shot).

Visionary is dead.

Even their staffers have received notice according to this post;

Yep what I was told by someone in the know earlier in the summer.  Companies lose that PBA approval and its a matter of when not if.  Rolled a 250 (249 but rounding up :P) with my Raven yesterday on a very heavy house shot (good score for me with a particle ball) so they may be gone but going to be rolling their stuff for years to come.

I share the same opinion.  For the conditions I see on a regular basis I can't see any reason to buy anything new.  No Rules OG for fresh THS, HyRoad for everything else, and occasionally a spare ball when things are really dry. Been using that system for 3 years now.

What would really get me to buy anything new is if I could custom order a ball from the major manufacturers.  Any cover I want paired with the core I want in the exact weight I want down to the OZ.  Color option would be nice buy not entirely necessary.  I know it would cost more for the manufacturer to re-tool for just 1 custom ball but I wouldn't have a problem paying an extra hundred or two.  Get the EXACT ball I want???  Sure I would fork over the cash!!!

How many times can you read "rolls great and has good continuation" ..... there is WAY too many new pieces of equipment being issued .... there is NOTHING new.  It's the same stuff over and over with different names and colors.  Some of us have figured that out already.

Just give me an $85 After Dark Solid and Pearl and we are good to go for league.

I feel that too many are cut and paste reviews.  And they get really old.  Some reviews are good but  many are the same stuff over and over!

I'd rather come here and read up on equipment, not FB.

Do you guys think this forum will survive?

Probably in some form, if the owners of Bowl.com still see value in it.

Facebook is the one I expect to not survive in the long term.

Facebook isn't going anywhere, the company I work for alone spends 80k a month in Facebook ads and that's nothing compared to a huge corporate giant.

If anything Facebook will lose the Gen-Z generation, as Boomers, GenX'ers and "elder millenials" make up 80% or so of the FB traffic. Instagram is the future of the bowling community.

It won't go away completely, but it won't be the dominate force it is now. Think MySpace, Yahoo, AOL.com etc., they all were in similar positions at one time.

Before this site, there was alt.sport.bowling which I just searched for using a newsgroup reader and it is pretty much dead.  Google show this:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/alt.sport.bowling

Which we would go to for Lichsteins' ball guides.
