Newbie here

Going to be shipping a ball to a family member halfway across the country

Curious how people are going about doing this at a reasonable cost? I used the USPS and UPS websites to get quotes and they wanted almost $50.

If it is going to cost that much it probably isn't worth shipping them a used ball

Shoot suggestions or any info that may be helpful

Depends on where you are going and how many balls you are shipping. I know that all the shipping companies went up on packages over, I believe, 50lbs so plan accordingly. Charge your price plus actual shipping.

This is a similar issue to what I am facing with an ebay listing for a new ball.  Shipping (either USPS Priority or UPS Ground) ranges anywhere from $18-$55 to ship to the lower 48 states.  This makes it prohibitively expensive for any prospective buyers to even consider buying the ball if they also have to pay the full shipping price.  The only way to make the listing attractive is to charge a flat-rate and absorb the difference if it has to go across the country.

In the case of a used ball to a family member, you could ask them to split the cost with you or just share in some of the cost to ship it.  If they want the ball bad enough, they shouldn't have an issue sharing in the cost.  Personally, I have found there to be very little value in trying to sell and ship used balls.  If I can't give them away locally or donate them to juniors, I just throw them away.
