Lane Condition Knowledge for New Guy
« on: March 13, 2009, 04:58:44 AM »
Usually our lanes are pretty dry, but last night we saw something different. I throw the Hammer Doom and usually have no problem getting the backend reaction, in fact after the second game, I really have to increase speed to keep it from crossing Brooklyn. Last night no matter what I did, the Doom had no reaction. The only time it did was if I slowed down drastically and put more revs on it, then it would snap into the pocket. But this was slow speed was almost silly how unnatural it was. I always play the outside dry part, tried the middle, even worse. My teamate throws the Hammer blue Vibe, same thing, his was moving maybe a board. Beings I'm fairly new to the technical side of bowling, from what I've mention, do you think this is a carrydown issue or too much oil and I need a stronger ball for these conditions? If you believe it's carrydown, would a stronger ball help or is there no solution to carrydown? Thanks for helping me out, i love learning from all of you.

Without bowling on it everything is conjecture.

It could have been carry down.

My guess is they either didn’t strip the backends (possibly the lane machine ran out of solution) or the shot was further outside than normal.

You said you moved into the middle and it became slicker and that would be true on a normal house shot.

I don’t know where you were targeting but I first would have moved further right trying to find an oil line and drier boards towards the outside of the lane.

If that fails you can go to a stronger coverstock ball, simply not play as much break (tighten up your line) or make adjustments like you did throwing slower, more revs, etc to gain more reaction/
