Perfect games in league play
« on: October 17, 2005, 05:24:09 AM »
I have noticed that during our 5 person league,
I am forced to make an adjustment every couple of
frames. This got me to thinking. Wonder what percentage
of 300 games are rolled in 3, 4, and 5 persons leagues?
Seems it may be less difficult to achieve a 300 in a 3
person league due to fewer adjustments. Just something
to ponder on a slow Monday.

I think it is the pace that is better for the less than 5 league.  I have shot 300 in all 3-4-5 and yes the shot may change a bit quicker in a five man (if all play the same area) but the SLOWWW pace is the killer.

I bowled a team the other day and we all played the same spot / breakpoints and that shot burned up real quick for (2) three man teams.

I think it would depend on a few other things:

- What part of the lane you play
- The volume of oil / surface you play on
- If you are a 1st or 2nd shift league

I would say based on the 4 man leagues I see in my house and the 5 man league that bowls on Monday nights, the percentages are much higher for a 300 game to occur in a 4 man league. I believe in the classic league there have been 3 300 games to date this fall, and in our Monday night league there have been none- 290 has been the highest shot so far.

I think the more that people play the track area in a 5 man league, the more adjustments need to be made to keep the ball on line throughout the night. Or you have to be willing to make ball speed, hand release and/or equipment changes very quickly.

I have seen 300's shot in 4 & 5 man team leagues.
I shot both of my 300's in 4 person team leagues.

I've seen 300's in 5 man team leagues as well.
I would agree to the fact that the Track area is getting a workout from the 5 person team leagues. That's 10 bowlers on one pair!

I have had 300's in 5 man, 3 man, 2 man and a singles league.  I feel by far the hardest is the 5 man league.  The shot transitions more and faster.  Also it is over a longer period of time so it is harder to keep your focus for a longer period of time.  Not to mention 5 man teams have more people in the center so there is more noise, etc.

I prefer 5 man teams. It helps keep me slowed down and under control. Ive shot 300 in singles leagues, trios, 4 man and 5 man. Ive shot the most of mine in 5 man leagues. It just suits me.

My scores have been:

1 5man team--300 first game, 276, 800+
Trio league--300 first game, 300 second game--800+
4 man league--300 game 2

Most are probably shot the first or last.  Its the transition in the middle that kills me, generally.

Andrew: Interestingly enough though, 1/2 of your 300 games this season (if these were thrown this season, I'm guessing here) have been during the second game- so you obviously found the transition well enough to your liking for those games.

I think my best chances for throwing a 300 game (since I've had a 299, 298 and many 279's) have been in the third game. Tonight was the first night in a long time where I had a chance at 300 in the first game (front 9, solid 7 pin in the 10th)....
