Wooden lane house with synthetic decks?
« on: March 09, 2007, 09:27:43 AM »
I am going to a tournament in 3 hours and the house description is this:

The lanes!
34 wooden lane house with
synthetic decks and wooden
approaches.  Nice oil patterns
that yield to many perfect or
near perfect games every year!

1) What are synthetic decks?
2) Are these lanes wooden or synthetic?
3) Which ball in my arsenal below is the best for this condition? My spare ball? Jesus Christ!

Anyone???  At least tell me what synthetic decks are and if they mean the pin area which I don't care about.  Looks like I will be taking weak balls tonight.

They are as the site says synthetic.

In older houses many old wood decks were replaced with synthetic.  More pin action with new kickbacks and 3.7 pins with the Great Wall of China=high scoring.

Use your bench mark ball in practice to find out where to play and what ball to use.

The pin decks are synthetic. They most likely will oil right before the tourny. You really don't know what kind of shot or volume of oil they lay down. You may not want to just take all weak equipment because you may just be caught with your pants down. Wooden lanes, especially old wooden lanes seem to suck up oil at a good rate. If your're in a northern region, the heat is on in the building and oil disapates even quicker. I myself would bring a wider variety of equipment....just in case.

synthetic decks means the pin deck, what the pins sit on, is a man made material. the lanes are wood. and you should be able to use anything you have in your line up. just because they are wood dosen't mean they will hook out the door. and they are easy, really easy, great wall of china easy. they wouldn't advertise the shot as being pathetically easy unless it is. so go there, stand left and just clear the head pin right, anywhere, and you should hit the pocket. shoot 750 and have fun have fun.

Lee's Lanes at Vandergrift, PA.  Never been there.  Bored and want to bowl competively tonight.  I would bring most of my arsenal but I don't want to walk in the tournament like a stuck up bowler.  I will just bring my 4 ball bag.  My Hit is required for spares.  I really want to bring my Vertigo but it is sanded so I don't think it will react well.  I am bringing my Black Widow just in case I don't shoot well, I will look good doing it haha.  I am bringing my Recharge and Cobalt (to support the sponsor of the tourney - Lane#1 haha).  I hope I can get a respectable 600 series.  Anything more and I will be pretty satisfied.  I haven't bowled on wood lanes in over a year. :/
