To make life easier all around I usually post the asking price of my used bowling balls with the price of shipping (Usually UPS, sometimes FEDEX) included to the 48 states.
Recently I posted a used ball (what model and brand doesn't matter) for $35 shipped. It was on its 2nd drill and it was a mid price ball, so I figured the price was reasonable. Since I had to take pictures and download them AND send them to 3 different people (One just an irritating looker with no intention to buy; ain't they ANNOYING?) and then boxing the darn thing up and hauling it over to the UPS office, The $10 I got was just NOT worth the hassle.
It turned out the guy lives in California and I live in NJ. Not his fault, of course, so I didn't whine to him. I put the price on the ball and he said yes.
UPS shipping is $25; FEDEX is $22. I just looked up DHL's price: $21.50; I thought DHL would be cheaper, but it's not.
That does not include my efforts, the double box, the gas driving to UPS or my time. Small wonder some EBay sellers are charging $30 or more.
Well, for me personally, I am inclined to continue to include shipping but unless I make at least $20 on a ball, I'll give it away locally or just leave it on the ball rack at a local center.
I understand that a used ball has to be cheap enough (less than a new one) once delivered to the buyer's house and then adding in the cost of plugging and re-drilling, but I'm not going to do all this work for squat again.
Maybe I'll post the price with shipping as an extra depending on your zip code?
Just had to get this off my chest.
(Just paid $6 for a "plain" 24 oz jar of Golden Blossom honey! Refills of the barbecue grill's 20 lb propane tank is now $20!)
