There is a men's league here that 1st place team gets jacket and there is a banquet. Leaves very little left for any prize money. It's a tradition with this league for years. I think its great they keep the tradition.
Does anyone else bowl in a similar league?

Banquet but no jacket

In previous league seasons we have done a banquet with price fund. The year we won our sponsor/team captain bought us awards out of his own money. This year we voted and passed, to due away with the banquet and use the money for prize fund. The second week of the league one team of "old timers" pitched such a fit that they reopened the discussion and voted a new prize fund. The new prize fund takes money out of the top of the final rankings and uses it for a cocktail reception the night of payout. My personal opinion is that banquets are antiquated, pay the league out at the center and if anyone wants to go in for drinks they will, and no one has to suffer thru a overpriced rubber chicken dinner.

On my Monday league the league buys pizza using 50/50 money. We share them with the woman's league as they alsoy pleasant participate in the 50/50, people also bring dishes of food and deserts so ends up being ver

Wow. The banquet was THAT big of a deal to him.
Let me guess, "because it's always been done that way" is the reasoning. As if he personally gets that much value from it...
Makes me ask myself, what about that banquet could be SO IMPORTANT to mount a crusade like that?
Old people man. ;)

I voted against the banquet, but the "no" votes lost in a landslide. lol

I would've voted no on both. A jacket? What's this? 1986? I bet the "old" have their members only jackets on with their Pontiac Firebirds double parked out front too. I want all the money. No banquet, no jacket.

I've never seen something as crazy as it was in 30years of bowling, and that's saying something!

Actually Dewey since your league approved the prize fund the first night. An then re voted the 2nd week it takes 100% of the league approval since the league had started. 1 NO vote and it cannot be changed. FYI
