After two games of the league roll off one team replaces one of their bowlers who said that he hurt his arm. The difference in averages between the two bowlers is about 20 pins. The team that replaced the bowler won the next game. The team that lost said that they should have at least been told before the switch was made.
Both these bowlers had over 60 games in, bowled for the same team all year.
the team that replaced the bowler was in first place for the lasts 3/4 of the year. The Other team all have averages over 200 and complain about handicap all the time.
Any comments?

I bowl in a 4 man match point league where once lineups are set, the only replacement would be for a regular bowler for a blind ( aka late bowler). There is no switching in subs during the match. As for complaints about handicap, you will never escape those arguements.

Was the replacement a sub or another bowler from their roster. If the league allowed more than 4 bowlers on the roster and he was a member of their roster. Then I see no issue.
If he was a "sub". Then I think there's an issue.

+1. This is the way it happens in league also. Unless this other bowler is a roster member of the team, he shouldn't be allowed to bowl.
I'd find it really strange if league rules allowed a 'sub' during roll offs.

Check your league rules.

5 man league, up to 8 on roster. The man subbed in was on the roster. League Secretary was consulted and approved.

The conduct of roll-offs are determined by league rules. If your league rules don't prohibit the action and it does not violate USBC rules then it is ok. Our league changed our roll-off rules this year, because I was out of town last year, and had to get a sub. No subs allowed during roll-offs this year.

Since it seems the team met all the league by-laws and it was approved by the secretary of the league, I'd say it was case closed.
If the other team doesn't like it, their only choice seems to be to have the league by-laws changed prior to next season. Or they can sue the league using the usual attorneys, "Whine, B*tch and Moan".

I think all three of them bowl on that team.

Any chance Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe are on the other team?

I don't know about that, but in every league I have ever bowled I find Whine, Biotch, and Moan.
The really bad thing about this is that the team that won will probably not be back next year because the center owner is on the team that lost. I also bowl in a Monday night league that everyone on the winning team also bowls on. This league is a fun league that kids from 5 up to 18 bowl on with their families. He put out so much oil that I could not even get my Storm Sync to break 5 boards, we had never had much oil all year. One guy asked him about it and he just laughed and said see how you enjoy that. So with that additude and we will lose some teams.
