"That Purple Stuff" Ball Cleaner Showdown Video
« on: January 28, 2016, 12:02:22 PM »
Okay, here's the video of my tests with That Purple Stuff.

Synopsis:
"That Purple Stuff" is a good cleaner, But you can use it up fast and it's pricey.

Cleaning after every shot does appear to give the ball a more consistent reaction, But it doesn't matter what cleaner you use. Cleaning after every shot lets any cleaner work more effectively.

As for leaving ten pins you still can leave them, But cleaning after every shot does seem to help reduce how many you leave.

Note about the 10 pin leaves:
That's just my opinion!! I cleaned my my ball every frame, I left fewer ten pins than I had been when I didn't.

I didn't do some long scientific study, I just tried what Ron H. said about cleaning after every shot. I did a comparison of cleaners like a ordinary person might try to do, Then just gave my opinion.

[REALITY CHECK = ON]

C'mon people. If cleaning the ball after every frame REALLY provided you some small advantage, and actually improved your pinfall, don't you think you would've seen the PBA guys doing this?

Its how they make their living. If cleaning the ball every frame really made that much difference, doing so would/could be worth thousands of dollars out there, but you still don't see it. If it worked, you would.

Cleaning a ball helps it last, but cleaning it every frame isn't necessary. Get a good microfiber towel, or pad, and wipe off any excess oil between frames. Clean it after every game or three, deep clean it every 15-20 games, and oil extract/resurface every 50-75 games. Doing this will make a ball last way past the point where most of us will have traded it for it for something else.

I've still got an original V2 with hundreds of games on it that I use occasionally, and it hasn't died on me yet.

Using purple stuff now, the only I notice is that it reeks...

Not trying to down play, I'll "put up" with the smell to see if it actually makes a difference... Like using the whole bottle over the rest of the season or so.

Not impressed thus far, really smells

Also, the ladies team next to us complained because it smelled too much like cleaner, and I think my team is high.

That was a good review video that you did. I'm on board with billdozer about the smell, it's very strong and takes a while to get the smell off your hands. I've had That Purple Stuff for almost a month now and had enough time to experiment with it and compare it to my other cleaners, Motiv Power Gel Clean, Remedy RX and Ultimate Rejuvenator.

As far as tackiness, That Purple Stuff definitely makes the ball tackier than the other cleaners, even more than Remedy RX to my surprise.

Getting the oil, dirt and other stuff removed? It seems to get the job done just well as the other cleaners. But just like in the video I noticed a little more dirt and oil on my towel using That Purple Stuff. The oil line was still on the ball with all cleaners so I think Clean n Dull or Power Gel Scuff would be more suitable for that.

I will say this, the 4oz bottle of That Purple Stuff will not last long, especially if you bowl more than twice a week and cleaning it after every shot or even every game. To me, I feel like it's a bit overkill to clean after every single shot. The only time I clean my ball after every 1 game is with my Forza Redline because that ball gets a lot of dirt and belt marks on it that can be very visible on it. I'm already got 60% of the bottle used up and I only bowl twice a week and typically only use it on my Forza solid after I'm done bowling for the night.

That Purple Stuff is a good cleaner and Aloarjr810's review is definitely spot on about what it does and the negatives about it. I wouldn't mind trying the foam bottle to see that will last longer, but not at this time until the price goes down. If they lower the price of it and come out with an 8oz foam bottle, then maybe.

Yeah my 4oz bottle was going pretty fast too. Now I've seen some more videos and he still shows using just this little bit for 3 games. I just got some Bowlingball.com Monster Microfiber Pad Bowling Applicators which look just like his pad with the sponge center. Their just tiny compared to his, so I'm going to see if it holds the liquid better and lets it last longer.

Also I just seen video about the foam bottle and how to use it. And they mention using it to reduce how much you use. (Which is what I thought you might could do).

Really you just need a empty foaming bottle, the applicator is what makes the foam and you can find empty bottles online.

I think a good compromise would be to clean the ball with one of the leather shammy pads each frame and then clean the ball with "That Purple Stuff" other cleaner after each game.

Note: I just got a Leather shammy so will be testing it shortly.
