Ring finger problem.. [update]
« on: December 09, 2007, 11:47:48 AM »
Hey everyone.. I've now encountered a problem. Long story short, first game at the beginning of last season, I hurt my ring finger. I wasn't fooling around, not doing anything special, just plain bowling, and hurt my FIRST knuckle of my ring finger (the one closest to the nail). Ever since that day I hurt it, the pain has never gone away. This past Saturday I hurt it more than anything, and I was barely able to bowl.. 521 series.. Okay, I WASN'T able to bowl. LOL.

Anyways.. Since I have a chance to, do you think I should try out a Sarge Easter grip, so that my ring finger knuckle isn't getting pressured? This would keep my knuckle out of the way with this grip, correct? Do you guys think this is a solution? I seriously hurt my finger, it never healed, and I don't know what else to do about it. Every doctor in my area doesn't seem good. :/

Thanks for any suggestions. I only want to take the simplest way out of this.

try it youll have to shorten your overall span a little but when you go back its takes a little while to get use to the stretched grip. you can still score with it take the matches going on right now devani is using it

You know what they say when "EVERY" doctor doesn't seem to know what they are doing?

If Xrays and MRIs do not show any damage, then go to a sports specialist. They usually have a good or safe idea about what the possibilities are.

I actually went to a sports "specialist" over the summer about my wrist, and the things I remember him saying are "I don't know much about bowling", "your wrist must be hurting from throwing a heavy ball".. Wow, I couldn't figure that out myself! LOL. It was funny, so that's why I quit on doctors.

Now i'm relying on a Sarge Easter grip. That is what i'm leaning towards trying out. Anyone have more suggestions? Thanks so far for the 2 comments, though!

There is nothing wrong with Sarge Easter grip, and it will probably help out your finger pain problem.  I would give it a go.  I have seen it used by several different people and it doesn't effect as much as you think on your game.  Once you get comfortable with it, you wont even notice.

I'd say it sounds like a issue with span/finger pitches.  Too long of a span and/or too much reverse pitch (assuming a typical release..).  Remember... bowling should not hurt!

Wow, thanks for the suggestions, everyone! This has helped a lot, and I will talk to my driller with whether I should go Sarge Easter, or just a pitch change. I was thinking I might as well go Sarge Easter because it may help my bad ball reaction i've been having lately. I just wanna get a different rev rate/tilt/ball reaction than the one i've been getting. I have too much foward roll for the lanes at my center! It's annoying lol. Everything sets up once it hits the lane pretty much, and I have no ball speed. LOL.

UPDATE:

Well, last Thursday, I got the Sarge Easter grip done.

Let me tell you a few things.. People have said this is hard to get used to, but I got used to it in a full game. It's actually very easy to throw. My ring finger, on the other hand, is now feeling GREAT! It's like when you throw it, you don't even feel your ring finger come out. I mean, with me, all you can do is HEAR it come out. With conventional balls, I always make the holes make a "pop" noise when I throw them. Don't know why, but it's probably because of my armswing when I "rip through" the ball really hard. With my weak wrist, it's hard getting easy revs.

Overall, everything came out great, and if my stupid computer would let me upload pics of my sarge easter Power Machine, then I would.

BTW, my rev rate has not decreased.. I think it... Increased. LOL. I really DIDN'T want that, but.. Oh well. LOL.

I know when I was having the same kind of pains in both my fingers, help from folks hear we figured out it was from hitting up way to much on the ball, I've since corrected that and have no pain at all anymore..
Good you got it taken care of that way anyhow.. That dose hurt alot, by the 2nd game I could hardly bowl anymore..  Good luck..
