Hole in my arsenal?
« on: December 08, 2014, 03:05:17 PM »
Hello,

I was thinking about my arsenal and I'm not sure if there is a hole in my arsenal or not. I'm a lefty, average speed and average revs. I bowl 90% of the time in THS and maybe one or two tournaments per year. I have the following:

- Motiv Arctic Sniper (for those damn 7 pins)
- Motiv Tribal Fire
- Motiv Sigma Sting
- Brunswick Wicked Siege
- Brunswick Aura Paranormal

I also have a Visionary G-3 Gryphon which I still don't know how and when to use it and a DV8 Ruckus that I found hard to control, at least for me, so I'm trying to get rid of both.

Suggestions? I was thinking about maybe the Yeti or the Yeti Uncaged, the Black Widow Legend or Assassin or the Motiv Primal Rage.

Thanks!

It's not as earky as they say. I think it clears the heads well and is smoith but strong. I find it much more user friendly than the hyper cell or disturbed that I have. I find its strength to be similar to Disturbed but weaker than hyper cell. Gets through heads better than both.

Yes its as strong. Ive thrown both and although I like the Rage, for me the Revolt is a much better ball, stronger ball and more consistent. But
Of course thats for me... I'm a huge Roto Grip fan also. I just really am a huge fan of the Revolt.

For a very low RG ball, the Revolt isn't as early as you may think.  For me, it clears the heads well but picks up the mids well and is smooth/continuous throughout in motion.  It's a very good ball to use when you have some volume and it works well with all styles.

Personally, I also like the Rage.  The difference is that the Rage is going to be cleaner up front and is very angular on the back.  This would be a ball I'd go to once the lanes start to burn up a bit or when you need something to really retain energy downlane.

Both are great balls.  For versatility, I'd have to give the edge to the Revolt.  However, they will compliment each other well.

I'm more like a Sigma Sting kind of bowler, more smooth, consistent, predictable and not a late hook as the Primal Rage, the thing is that Motiv doesn't have an option for Medium-Heavy  for that kind of shape/reaction right? They only have the Primal Rage and the Covert Revolt, is the Revolt more close to the Sting than the Rage is?

Which one is more predictable and consistent? I also don't like when the ball jumps heading to the pocket making me have some splits, 7 pins or worse...

I also was reading the specs of the Covert Revolt, and maybe my Aura Paranormal is the same kind of the ball as the Covert Revolt, isn't it?

Between the Rage and Covert Revolt, the Revolt is smoother and more predictable.  The Rage is still one of Motiv's most angular balls that has ever been produced.

There are lots of choices out there. You might want to consider the Roto Grip Hysteria. It's higher RG will get through the heads a little easier than the Revolt, but the backend is more controllable than the Rage. I threw the Hysteria at a demo days, and I quickly fell in love with the polished solid.

Check out some of the Hysteria reviews here, especially the one from Riggs. It might be closer to what you're looking for.

The Sigma Sting is closer to the Revolt than the Rage.  Variations in surface prep can make it closer to the Revolt or the Rage, depending on which way you want to go.

--------------------------------------------------------
Edit:  I see you have the Sting (stupid reading comprehension). I have seen many people get a good amount of push with the Revolt.  The Revolt can be adjusted to get more length if it is too early.

Is it just me or the Covert Revolt is pretty close to the Brunswick Aura Paranormal?
