Chris Schenkel (sp?) RIP
« on: September 11, 2005, 04:04:27 AM »
Just heard on Fox that Chris Schenkel has died at the age of 82.  He died from a long time battle with emphysema.   Had to be the best thing that ever happened to bowling in terms of announching.

Sorry to hear that. I was just watching a tape I just bought of the 1968 Phoenix Open.
(Dick Weber, Don Glover, Billy Hardwick, Eddie Patterson, and Dick Ritger.) Commentary by Billy Welu and a very young Chris Schenkel. He was a gentleman from another era. May he rest in peace.

I am very sad to hear about this news. Chris Schenkel was someone I grew up listening to and watching. After the PBA went off the air on ABC, I was deeply saddened.

Rest In Peace my friend, you're in a better place now...

Regards, Ramtart

Classy!  Always enjoyed his class act!

I'm sure after a tough battle with Emphysema(those are very tough) that it is a relief to be at peace!

Heard the news earlier today on CBS pre-game coverage.  Schenkle was good for bowling on ABC coverage.  I remember him shedding a tear at the end of the last PBA telecast ABC provided.

He was an icon in the industry and will be missed.

Nice job there guys.  Good to see you're still completely ignoring the prior 30 years before Miller and the gang.
