Good second game.........bad third...why?
« on: October 27, 2012, 11:25:16 PM »
HI,

Me?

Stroker
Play right up the 10 board
I stand on 14-15
Avg 190
Common house shot
Fairly dry 1-10 boards
Med oil 10 on in

Lanes started off a little dryer than normal
Put my ball in the shiner and it helped
First game 180...only 3 strikes
Decided to move my target to the RIGHT maybe 3 boards to the 7 board
Second game 255....2 misses...both were in pocket.....A little soft
Third game....2 strikes playing same line 171 :<
What gives......should I have moved line even more right?  or left?

BTW, second game was weird...even when I missed my mark, I struck........

Thanks, Cav

My guess, what basically happened is you bowled on the fresh which didnt have enough oil for where you were playing, carried the oil down giving you the oil needed to play that line, then dried it out the lanes which is why you struggled. You have to move your feet as you see the ball react.

If the lanes were drier to start with, my guess is that you and others who were playing outside dried up the oil. Typically by the third game I'd be shocked if you haven't moved inward at least a time or two depending on lane surface and oil volume.  You should try moving inward next time.  If the ball reads too early (due to friction) it's also slowing down and losing some of the hitting power.

Gotta be proactive with adjustments if you have played in one spot with multiple bowlers on the line with you, you will need to move or ball down. Don't wait for the lane to go away move before it does

Your move is in and chase the oil line. 2&1 3&2 what ever works for your style . First number is to move your feet, 2nd move your target. Moves are in boards - big hookers make bigger moves.

Move? where?

What is ball down?

"Ball down" means to use a ball that's one or two degrees milder in oil handling and gets more length to allow the user to stay in the same general area as he was before the transition started. Sometimes it can be the pearl of the solid he is using; sometimes an even milder ball, depending on the condition.
