Looking for a ball to play the lane straighter with.
« on: October 05, 2006, 12:27:12 PM »
One of the houses I bowl in has put down a more diffacult shot this year. The shot plays flat, has an out of bounds, acts more like a wet/dry, and if I had to guess, I would say it is about 35 ft or so. I would like find a ball/layout that is VERY smooth, can handle a bit of oil (medium/medium light with sometimes carrydown) but, dosent hook a ton of boards so, I can square up a bit more. I currently have to play the lane deep but, keep it out of the OOB and I get alot of over/under. I have used a teamates Ebonite Puma drilled label (might be oil logged???) and it works well but, I would like some other suggestions.

Actually, I'm in the market for the same ball you are.  So far, suggestions I've had are for the Track Solution Power Plus EX, Inertia, Equation, or the Arsenal Artillery.

I have thrown the Artillery, that is a big hooking monster for me.

I have the Equation, I have to play that deeper than about anything in my bag on this shot!

PP EX, I dont want a skid flip. Already have that look. Wont work for this shot.

Maybe the Inertia????????

I have thought about it. I do have a Raging Inferno (Label) that is not in my profile but, this ball is way too strong also. I was told a Heat Blast would be a good weapon of choice. I tried a Strom Super Sport pearl becasue I heard they were smooth and good right side balls, not the case at all. It had a 3/5 drilling on it and like all strom I have thrown, it has alot on the backend and is over/under.

Does anyone know how a Pin Axis or a Pin near Axis would be in this case? Would a sanded Urethane be the way to go?

I bowl on this shot all the time and so far my intense inferno drilled 5x5 with the polish knocked off slightly with 4000 abralon has worked great as long as you play up the boards.one of my teammates has a nice look with a pearl uranium drilled with the pin under fingers on center,I don't know his pap.my pattern is 45ft though.

An extra 10 ft of oil would be it alot easier IMO! LOL!

AMF Radar, with weaker layout (maybe 4.5x5) and the polished knocked off (or possibly the new Nighthawk)

Polished Hammer Pain, 5x5

Visionary Immortal Pearl, 4.5x5 (the large differential will help get the ball rolling and, thusly, smooth out the wet dry)

Just some suggestions!

you could try the pure hammer or something urethane.big hit particle also comes to mind.yes I have the hold on a 45 ft pattern but carry is always fun.

Ice (blue)
Vibe (purple)
Jolt

IMO, any one of those would work, JMO

Good ball for spotty lanes is the Scout Hi-Flare Urethane.
I bought one, drilled it pin over bridge...works great if you're looking to square up, and not find over/under.

I like my Roto Grip Saturn for this type of condition...

Very smooth of the dry and very controlled....

The Slash would be the Track ball I would go with if you can find one.....

a low load particle ball may be just what you need----this will tone down some of that over/under and have more control.

Brunswick website I think lists a 2 X 4 drilling as being great for wetter
wet/drys.  I agree.  Have you ever tried it!  I have one on a Track Hex....smooth and sweet!  If there are strong backends and lots of head and mid oil...archy!

"very smooth, handling medium to medium-light oil, with control"
says to me,  2 balls, of the current crop available, at this moment in time:
Roto-Grip Saturn
and
Storm Jolt solid
with a 3rd potential, Lanemasters Absolute Power.

Any other balls, and there are many around, would need special drills and/or surface adjustments.
