Ball Weight
« on: October 11, 2006, 10:59:09 AM »
I'm a 60 year old stroker.  I'm having real problems with dropping the ball.  I think it's both weight (I'm bowling 15#) and a possible problem with the thumb drilling.  I'm going to have the thumb issue addressed tomorrow to see if that's it, but I'm really thinking the ball is just too heavy.
With the quality of today's balls, should I hesitate going down to a 14 or even a 13 if it will improve my release and delivery?
Thanks.
BTW, I'm bowling first shift of med/hvy oil and bowl medium revs and speed.

Carry will not be affected by dropping weight to 14#.  Every performance ball (really, performance or otherwise) made today has the same core as the 15# or 16# balls.  Some companies switch to significantly different cores for 13# and below, but 14# and up all use the same core.  Do not be afraid to drop in weight, not today.

You'll se more soft 10's and fewer 1/2 pocket strikes. However, increased revs may be the equalizer. On a THS with a nice snappy backend you'll do fine. It's carry down and longer oil patterns that will affect your carry.
