Looking for an oiler
« on: September 03, 2003, 09:57:37 PM »
I have a superfreak but its drilled for a nice arcing reaction so it doesn't move real good on soup. I have mainly been a track man, but i need a ball probably particle, but i want it to get more thru the heads clean with a harder backend.

I was looking at the phenom from Track or RotoGrip from Fuel

i am left handed, 16-18 mph and high rotation and track. any thoughts comments help is appreciated, or suggested balls to look at or drillings to use on certain balls

thanks a bunch

Crank,

what surface do you have on your super freak? I have mine scuffed with a burgundy scotch brite pad and I really can't use it anywhere here... i'm a stroker, so i really can't say, for you.

First, i'd ask you to tweak coverstocks, first... and then buy a new ball.

Anyway, if you were going to get another ball... go with a phenom. the backend is pretty tremendous.

If you are looking for a n oiler with backend The Phenom is the ball you want. Read my post in the track forum----then look at the post asking about the phenom and super freak............it explains it all.

my SF has a scuffed up surface i got it drilled to evenly roll, its great for straight up shots but any swing more than 3-5 boards it rolls out

well roll out is the wrong word. doesn't hit as hard.

how much later does the phenom have compared to the SF? and its much like the freak in terms of late hook because i have owned a freak?

It gets down the lane like the Freak did, but the movement in the backend is much, much stronger. Probably 8 boards more on the backend than the Freak. For me, the Super Freak rolled up about 5 ft sooner than the Phenom.

Well,

It looks like someone beat me to the question I was
gonna bring,soooooooooo,everyone who replied before
me(aka EXCALIBER,JV and Lefty C or others).

I need some help too!!!

My problem is the BRAND NEW Sports shot at my local
BA.

Its a 40 footer with no mercy on many balls, very little dry or light oil on the sides.

This is this most suprising SS i've encountered(aka why did I forget to stay at home.lol)

Anyways, would this NEW PHENOM work as well?

,,,umm, just in case I dont use the Phenom.

What about these choices(aka I already own these).

V2 Strong
Morich Minotaur
BW Swamp Monster
Original Carbide Bomb,dark dull purple
Super Freak(aka its a lil' too darn heavy)
Mutant
Mutant Blem
Storm Trauma Response
Storm El Nino X-it

Thats all I can think of becuase I'm in my garage and my balls are in the other room!

Ok,here's some NIB choices I own(aka HOW SHOULD I GET THEZE DRILLED against 40 foot Sport shot?)

Dynathane Thing
Dynathane Cure
Another Storm Trauma Response
Another Swamp Monster

nuff typed!

Some or any advice would be appreciated, smart ask answers are allowed!!
Then I will filter the SA answers with the real answers, lol.

Thankz,I am gonna post somewherze elze.

Aren't you the one always complaining about having to swing plastic on house shots?  If it's heavy oil, nothing's going to cover a ton of boards.  Even oilers need some dry to hook.  The Phenom will give you more backend than the Super Freak, but only if the lanes have enough dry for it to "flip".

LeftCrank,

Either you're not the cranker you're userid says you are
OR
you've scuffed a SUPER-aggressive coverstock/core so that it's burning up in the heads and the midlane.

Both the Freak and the Super-Freak are *SUPPOSED* to have more natural length than the Mutant and the Phenom (which are *SUPPOSED* to have  earlier breakpoints). By scuffing the SF up, you may have gone against what you should do with such a *SUPPOSEDLY* extremely strong ball.

I would try to re-finish it to 1500 grit smooth that was its out-of-the-box finish or else apply a light amount of polish to it, so it will clear the heads more easily.

WHy did you scuff it up to begin with??

its burning up midlane i know it is. on heavier oil i can go straight up with it. im not looking for an oiler for house shots, i want it four tournaments. I have no use for a heavy oil ball on a house shot but when tournament time comes ive got all reactives and pearls and i hit a few floods where my stuff just wasn't enough,  i could get to the pocket, but carry and having mistake area were non-existant
