Hyroad Pearl Replacement
« on: January 25, 2018, 08:15:48 PM »
I am looking to replace a five year old Hyroad Pearl.  Besides the obvious, a new Hyroad Pearl, what current ball will best match my old ball.

Not sure if anything current/recently released would be a close match. Most coverstocks are stronger than R2S Pearl, and that classic Hy-Road motion can't really be found elsewhere. I wouldn't overthink it and just get another Hy-Road Pearl if that's the type of reaction you want.

Only 2 piece pearls that come to mind is the Honey Badger which will be longer and more angular (love mine) or the Quantum Fire which is a bit stronger and little less angular.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.

I've cycled through quite a few balls and studied a lot of balls motions that I didn't buy that others had. With the Hy-Road Pearl being my favorite ball, a replica doesn't exist in my opinion. I vote to just get a new one. There are balls that are close, but you'll notice how they are either as clean and more sharp, or just not as clean through the lane.

I've looked through what's currently out and I don't see much that I would say is a direct replacement for the HyRoad Pearl.

The ball that catches my eye as a similar reaction is the Ebonite Affinity, but I believe the 11.2 cover is stronger than R2S Pearl. I've also thought the Motiv Octane Carbon is close but still not quite the same

Primal fear is closest from Motiv. Closest numbers and cover.

Primal fear is closest from Motiv. Closest numbers and cover.

I had both OOB and drilled very similar. The Fear would either go 65 feet or cut hard when the HRP was reading more consistently and rolling off the spot better. In my opinion, I wouldn't suggest a Fear as a replacement personally. But probably the closest you currently can get from Motiv.

My HRP from 2013 and my PF from 2017 were drilled the exact same and reminded me of each other. I dod not touch surface on either ball. Just my .02.

Yeah get the original while its still available.  Storm will discontinue it before the hybrid but probably not any time soon.
