New Fangled Ball Baking...?
« on: March 20, 2013, 04:27:33 PM »
Reading Charlest's posts & not wanting to Hi-jack, ;) got me thinking of all the ways some of you have tried getting the oil out your bowling balls.  ???

I saw some used their oven, dish washer (which I've done), ball baths (also have done, not a fan of), trunk of the car in the hot sun  :-\... & Food dehydrators... ???

That last one got me wondering... Has anyone tried their "smoker"?  Not a charcoal smoker  ::), but an electric one... Bradley or Master Built...?  Mine could probably fit 2 at a time.  It's digital, has a timer, so I could just set it & forget it.

This could be fun... Any other ideas?

A smoker?  You could go into competition with Storm on scenting bowling balls.  New hickory smoked ball or Mesquite.  Even better, you could have some manly scented bowling balls instead of the fruity ones - Steak, BarBQue Ribs, etc.  :)

Food sales would go up for sure...

Nah, I meant without putting the wood chips in... Just using the heat feature. Not gonna do it, just wondered if anyone tried it or will try it now that I brought it up...??

This brings a question to mind. Why has Storm not release a ball that smells like Bacon??

I bought a smoker from a store that was going out of business a few years ago for around $100 bucks and I use it strictly for baking my bowling balls.  I set the temp at 125 and it works like a charm.  The only problem is my friends always joke with me and ask if I can smoke their balls.

I have also used a rubermand container and a hair dryer.  That worked as well but I had to rotate the ball more often.

They'd get too many balls returned because of bite marks at the bridge & in the track...

Tried using a turkey deep fryer, you know the ones with the propane tank.  substituted oil with water, had a hanger custom made to hold the ball.  set the temp. and let it go.  worked pretty well, the oil came out and went into the water. kinda works like a steam bath.

That's pretty cool.  And the water stayed at the controlled temperature the whole time?  It didn't flutuate higher, lower etc..?  I don't have a deep fryer... yet.

What's next? Rigging up a Kitchen-Aid mixer to "resurface" a ball a la Storm Surface Factory?

Heard about the trash bag. My ex caught me and said if I can carry a ball in the bag, I can take the trash out. Lesson learned. No way in hell she's gonna catch me using the oven or dishwasher.
