as i have gotten older my speed has dropped to 13.5 mph. I only use the first joint of my thumb when gives me a higher rev rate. i have problems getting the ball to not over hook using beginner balls on a house shot. I use storm mix and breeze and Motiv thrill drilled weak with extender polish. suggestions to help me get the ball longer down the lane.

One thing you can do is hold the ball higher up in your stance which will get you a longer follow through and thus more speed and length down the lane. You could also take faster steps during your approach which would naturally give you more ball speed and thus length.

maybe put your whole thumb in the ball?

How can you have a consistent release with half your thumb out of the ball? You must have to squeeze with your thumb to keep from dropping the ball. The thumb pressure will kill your shot.
I agree with six pack; put your entire thumb inside the ball and make sure that you have a snug thumb fit.

Yeah, if that doesn't work something else in terms of mechanics needs to be adjusted. I'm not sure there's anything you can do in terms of equipment or surface changes. It's hard to imagine a Mix not getting far enough down the lane.

Go lighter or quit being stubborn. It isn't hard to lower one's rev rate.

Thanks for all your help. This is what seniors fight all the time.
