Magic Carpet Gathering
« on: May 28, 2005, 02:57:57 PM »
Just talked to RonC, the gathering this year will be July 22-24, Creekside Lanes, Winston-Salem, NC

Who's coming.  Whole bunch of newbies out there that haven't had the pleasure of beating up on me.

Sr. Keg already sent me some info -- should be a great time!!  Looking forward to it!  How many balls do we bring??

Doesn't matter.  Bear in mind there is no money involved, everything is simply to have some fun.  Scores really don't matter other than bragging rights.

A little info about the house.  Brunswick lanes, pro-anvil I believe, with the ray charles downlane markers.  Sweetspot for the THS is 10 board at 40'.

We can probably talk Ron into putting out this years ABC shot and maybe the US open or one of the PBA shots.  Might have to start another post to see what everyone wants.  Afterall, its your gathering, Ron wants to make it as memorable as possible.

Suggestions anyone.

I'm really interested in making the trip, if for nothing else, so that some of the people on BR will actually see THE Big Willy Style (I'm referring to the back-up ball I throw)! Anyway, need to get some info from you guys...message me with hotels, times, address, and most importantly...if you'll actually let a back-up bowler around real bowlers!!!

Big Willy Style

Hope to see some of ya in a couple months...

Oh, I'm there for the fun, too....Couldn't bowl for money if my life depended on it!!  Just love to show off my balls!

Wouldn't mind any non-THS shot, but the ABC, US Open or something where you have to play way outside would be nice....

Ball Reviews / Bowl 4 Fun.com gathering July 22-24

Here is a Yahoo map of where Creekside Lanes is located.
http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=1450+trademart+blvd&csz=winston+salem%2Cnc&country=us&new=1&name=&qty=

Creekside Lanes
1450 Trademart Blvd.
Winston Salem, NC 27127

My email address if you need more info:
rclifton@triad.rr.com

The hotel I suggest is Extended Stay America. It is clean and cheap!
Use the Winston Salem / Hanes Mall location.
You can find it on www.extendedstayamerica.com for a map. It just one exit from the bowling center.

Extended StayAmerica
Winston-Salem - Hanes Mall Blvd.

Winston-Salem, NC  27103

I think this is about the 3rd or 4th year I have done this.
People have come from as far away as Ca. and Wa.

We have a good time, bowl a LOT (games are only $1.50)
We usually have a bragging rights tournament and the winner gets a T-shirt signed by all.
This is not a Ron Clifton 3 day bowling clinic but I am always willing to help the attendees out when they ask…for free of course.

I hope to see lots of you there…Even you lurkers out there that enjoy reading the post but never post anything.

Ron Clifton

I really wanted to come this year, but I'll be returning home from Indiana (Junior Gold) just a few days before that.  Shucks!

OK guys, now we have another little problem.  Lane 1 has donated a H20 ball, hat, & shirt to be given out during this years BR gathering.

I ordered a 15# ball, medium shirt.

Give me some ideas on how to give them away that is fair to everyone.

Since it looks like this is a for sure, I'll start looking for a sub for the Friday and Monday.  I'll also start looking into airfare.  The Extended Stay America is a nice, clean, cheap place to stay.  They even accept lefties from the land of nuts and fruits

Well, you can count me out on the shirt -- if it ain't XXL, it ain't happening for me!!  Big thanks to Lane 1 for the stuff -- that's cool!!  Drawing a blank on how to give them away though....

I think we should just give it to the one who showed the most dedication by moving closest to Ron.

Maybe award the ball to the highest (handicap) score of whatever tournament format we come up with, and make the hat and shirt "door prizes".  Maybe have a small raffle to help Ron pay for some expenses?  I don't know how much trouble it would be to set up, but a skills competition might be fun also.  I want a shot at the 45 pin rack.  I want to see SrK leave one of his famous taps on that!

Thanks to Darold for arranging the prizes and Lane #1 for their generosity!
