Bunch of bloody sandbaggers
« on: August 30, 2014, 10:32:44 PM »
Yeah that is what we were called on Sunday, and that is what we appeared to be.   Lead off bowler shot a touch over the average he established, second bowler had a friend work with his form  and shot 100 pins over his first week's series, third bowler established a 143 average the first week and fired a 254 first game out the second week (OK he sandbagged a little lol,) and I shot 88 pins over my established average because I couldn't carry anything the first week. We took one game the first week because we were just outmatched.  Second week,  we got 61 pins of handicap and didn't win a game by less than 110 pins.  How do we convince everyone my team didn't sandbag?

good luck with that.  I know most everyone struggles the first week.  Most leagues that I know of have a 10 pin drop rule if you have a prior seasons league average.  Depending on the league it can be 3 weeks or up to 5.  then it goes to the new seasons average.

Yup, the 10-pin drop rule helps address true and perceived sandbagging. It's based on your entering average.

We have a couple of guys who had and will (need to) have surgery; exemptions from the 10 pin drop rule will be on an injury exception, approved by the league board only basis.

Most leagues I bowl in use the previous season's average for the first 3 weeks, to help avoid such things.

Besides, REAL sandbaggers don't "correct" themselves until at least the last half of the season.

OK thanks for all the input. This is only an 8 team league with 2-3 capable of averaging 200+,  so we aren't going to adopt any fancy rules.  I do like the rule for using the previous average for three weeks though

Dear lilpossum1:

It won't be easy. Even you admit that your third bowler sandbagged "a little" -- and even if no one sandbagged, you'd never convince everyone.

People don't understand sandbagging. If you were truly sandbagging, your team would not be posting those kind of scores that early in the season.

If you didn't sandbag, then know that you didn't.

However, if you did sandbag, go punch yourself in the junk over and over again please.

From the description given in the OP, your league has some dim bulbs.

"If you don't stand for our flag, then don't expect me to give a damn about your feelings."
