Title: Midwest gathering
Post by: sevenpin63 on August 22, 2011, 12:36:41 PM
I know Monster, and Impending Doom, and myself were talking about a Midwest gathering in the Chicago land area. Or just to get together and bowl some games and meet new people, and drink some beer.

Where would a good place to do this, any ideas? I know leagues are starting up and it would be hard to get a block of lanes for a weekend night, I think? Maybe a in the day time would be better.

And how would you go about putting something like this together.

Or how many people would be interested?

Just floating this out there to see the interest.

Well, I could suggest a couple.. There's St. Charles Bowl.  Bowl late afternoon, end just before leagues.  Go over to Rookies, have a few & then do the St. Charles pub crawl...

Other option is Brunswick Zone X in Algonquin. I don't think they run leagues.  There's all kinds of eateries near there... Famous Daves, Bone Fish, Biaggi's & a few others...

Pin Stripes in South Barrington could be another option.  There's a pizzeria sports bar in that same mall... A winery place, Cooper's Hawk which is pretty decent... There's a Rookies near there as well... Not sure if Poplar Creek bowl has leagues in the whole house or not, but it's just up the street from there...

Other than that, Chicago somewhere.... I dunno... Just throwing suggestions out there.

I would totally be for St Charles Bowl! It's like 5 minutes from my house!

If we need to find a place that is more central, we can talk to the people at Fox Bowl. I know the staff there and could probably arrange something. Bowling Green would be open to it too. Too bad there are no more 24/7 places like Rolling Lanes used to be (and might still be)

Wait, did I miss the part about the pub crawl? We do that with a gathering, we need to have out of towners plan to stay with someone. Too bad the yard is closed. That leaves the filling station, charliefox, dog and duck (if its still even open?) And the beehive. All on the west side of the river.

PS. At the end, I would be crawling.

I would be interested in attending a Midwest-based get together, as well.

Please keep us informed as to how this can happen!

Would be interested also.  John(Axewelder) and I are around NW side of Chicago and there are a few bowling alleys and plenty of food and drinks places, an off track betting establishment, and new Casino in Des Plaines and  the pro shop that I help out at and Axewelder frequently visits Chicago Bowlers Shop BZ Niles (Rich Blake), now with a second location in Brunswick Zone River Grove (Andy Loose drills over there !)

See you guys around here hopefully !

Wow looks like it got a good response for one day.
My leagues start next week at Wood Dale Bowl, and Bowling Green in West Chicago. I will ask if their will be any open lanes say for a Saturday in the near future, and if some of you would do the same maybe we can work something out.
I am open to all places that we can get into and have some fun.

Lets make this happen.

And to JLS come on down.

I know that Bowling Green has $1 a game on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights after 9, but that's a bit late.

St Charles Bowl has lanes for $1.95 a game, all the time. In fact, just got back from toeing it up over there. If we end up there, don't bring anything that actually hooks!

Sounds like there is plenty of interest .. make sure you get someone (or group) to coordinate everything .. someone should also get in contact with ball companies .. might get some gifts to be raffled off free to attendees. Schedules for bowling/meals/lodgings and lane conditions all have to be planned. Should be fun .. hope it gets going!

You forgot about McNally's... Then there's Chord on Blues on the east side of the river...

There's also hotel accommodations with a Holiday Inn Express on North Ave just west of Dunham... & a Courtyard on Foxfield between Dunham & Kirk just west of Charlestown Mall & South of the high school.  Not to mention Pheasant run & the hotel across the street from it...  Cab rides &/or car pooling would be easy... Once down town, everything is walking distance except bowling alley & Rookies... But you could make do that way...

With 3 lady's & the dog, my house be full...  I'm sure guys would want their own rooms, beds, showers, privacy, etc...

Yeah, I been there before... The wife really likes it.   Could be a touch crowded with a gathering... Ginos East is up east on 64 a little bit, might be more accommodating to a larger group...?

You could always try the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells, too.  Might be a little too much North for some of you but it's near a casino (Ho-Chunk), has a 24 lane facility, and a waterpark for the younger ones.  Besides, at any given time, there's more Illinois plates in the Dells than any other state...lol.

Well so far I count roughly about 15 people that are willing to go.

So I will head out to St. Charles Bowl and Bowling Green this Saturday, to see if I can work something out with them. Try to make it for a month later or so to give everybody some notice, I will see when I talk to them.

Kind of hard for the next few days as I will have to work from 2AM until 2PM. Good overtime but the hours suck.

You might want to check with Fox Bowl. I know that bgsc won't put out anything special for us, and not sure about St chuck. They were running the kegel patterns this summer, so if we want something other than the the, you should check with either fox or stc.
