Title: Mixed-Competitive League Question
Post by: just2nice4u on September 26, 2006, 01:47:59 PM
i bowl in a 4-person mix competitive handicap league, it is a 34 team league with a majority of the teams in the avg range of 700-750, now i'm coming back with a 189 avg, with a max of a 5 pin drop in the first three weeks, my question is do most of you bowl and try to garner the best possible scores, or do you look to drop those 5 pins the first 3 weeks and or do you bowl according to the game situation? shoot if its close, dump if getting destroyed? and since it is a team game, do you shoot with a team-game set of mind or for your own individual purposes?

I shoot for myself, cause i dont wanna worry too much if my teammate is having a bad day. That tends to mess my whole mind set up, so i just stick to worring about my bowling, not theirs.

It doesn't matter the league format, I always shoot the best I can.

I don't always bowl the best I can, but I TRY to bowl the best I can regardless of scores, conditions, teammates, and whatever else you care to factor in.

Clarification, I bowl the best I can on that night  It might be a 490, it might be a 690.  There are those nights that my best is not very good But for that night on that condition, it was my best effort.  In other words, I don't hold back.

The team I'm on is a 5 man team with only one bowler under 210 so we are faced with handicap deficits of 200 pins on a regular basis.  In order to beat these teams we have to shoot 1100 every game.  We can't afford to not bowl the best possible scores.  I've seen guys/gals when their team is bowling well and they might be just shooting ok maybe try to use different equipment or find a better line for the next game.  This might cause them to open, but would you consider that letting up?

I cannot bag no matter what the situation.  I always bowl the best that I can and let the chips fall where they may.  I bowl in a competitive mixed league as well and as a team, we just hope that everyone is honest, which we know is not the case, and that everything will shake out for the best at season's end.

Whenever I bowl, I always do the best I possibly can. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I want my team to win, as the captain I try and encourage the rest to do their best also. I'm not out for individual glory, it's a team, and that's the way I play it. When we win, we win as a team, not because an individual scored higher. Even if it works out that way. But all scores count in the victory. I take blame when we lose, that's what being a captan is.

I also bowl on a team with everyone having 200+ averages. There is no point where any of us would not try to shoot 300 or our best at any point regardless if we are way up or can't catch up. My Men's League has way too many bowlers who can shoot 300 at any givin moment so It's either show up(bowl your best) or just quit the league.
