Mixed league rant...
« on: September 21, 2006, 06:32:58 PM »
So I subbed last night in a mixed league...Mostly drinkers, straight bowlers and a good team here and there..

Anyway on are pair we had 7 (total) straight plastic throwers...Right down the middle (pretty much, lol)

Check out this set:

262-135-132

First game everything was going great...After all that plastic moved the oil down, I was screwed !

Needless to say I will never sub in that, nor any mixed "fun" league !

Seems like I just tossed my $5 right out the window

Damn straight bowlers !

bowlingtourneycom - Say what you want, I was asked to sub 15 min before the league started. I didn't go in thinking I was going to hit my reg 219 avg, I wanted to have "fun"...

...but shooting bad is not my idea of "fun"

When I do tourney's I go in with the serious attitude, I didn't with this

Like I've always said, If the balls not hooking, I'm not having fun and I'd rather not bowl.

Changing lines and going straighter on a house shot broken down by plastic throwers is not fun and I don't sub for that, plain & simple.

Just not my kinda people to bowl with

One man's carrydown is another man's hold.  I would think someone that averages "219"  could figure that tricky mixed league pattern out.

Urethane Game - Maybe I was being a tad bit difficult ()...I just keep throwing the same line, hoping to hit the pocket and leave a easy spare...But I got nothing but spits and washouts...LOL

I could have took my pearl Cobalt and went up the gutter...but thats just not "my" game.

Serious though...In a serious money league, how many plastic throwers is there ?

Is a tourney ?

I bowled league last year, we followed a womens league with the same exact think, boy it was not fun at all, but I did learn a great deal about my game and how to adapt to the conditons.

In leagues like the 302 you should have fun, throw plastic, play the ditch, play deep, do something you never ever do, and the heck with the scores lol

Because a shot doesn't fit YOUR game....not a valid excuse. That's a quitter's excuse. Learn a new game, learn a new line, learn to be versatile. Otherwise you're no better than the bowlers you are bashing here for throwing plastic straight down the lane as that is THEIR game.

For one these people have no "game"..They are beer drinkers thats looking for a night out. The center manger will tell you that, lol

Second, if the shot doesnt fit my game...Then I won't bowl...bottemline.

Why isnt there more PBA memebrs ?...

It's my money, time & energy...Why waste it tossing 130's...I won't, lol.

Nobody (maybe a fluffer) goes up the gutter on a house shot...I'll quit bowling before I do that

It's probably for the best that you don't sub there anymore.  If I were bowling in that league, I wouldn't want my night of fun dragged down by a whiny baby.

Doesn't sound like it was a house shot when you got there.  Might have started that way, but it certainly didn't end up that way.

So are you saying a walled up house shot is all that fits your game?  This should have been an oppotunity to improve other areas of your game.  Not to whine because the shot doesn't fit your game.  That is what I love about the house I bowl at, it's not the great wall of China.  If you carry a 220 avg there, you pretty much deserve it.  Don't get me wrong, it's not a PBA pattern or anything, just not nearly as forgiving as most of the centers are putting out.  THat's why we end up having so many people do good at tournaments.  We aren't stuck on a cake shot every week.

the fact that most of these players were "straight shooters" doesn't make them bad---most of the time walter ray williams, jr., and norm duke go pretty straight and there's no way you would be able to beat them. i have been bowling in a mixed league on saturdays for years now and this is something i face every week. when i encounter plastic ball carrydown i move right and square up even more. most of the time this works. when it doesn't i go to a ball with more surface.

By your own tacit acknowledgement, it was no longer a house shot in the traditional sense.  And yes, you will find tournaments where people are throwing plastic...not often, but it does happen that the condition turns to a grind out and plastic allows people to stay in play- if you aren't tossing plastic in that scenario, then you had better be prepared to deal with their remnants.  The play may be in a different part of the lane than you had, but it would still be something to contend with.

Many of us could have still had fun on the condition you described AND had a cheap practice session.  Most of us would not have continued to harm the team we were subbing for...

All you people are b!tching because I'm being honest ?

Oh yeah I forgot, the only shot all you bowl on is Sport shots & PBA patterns right ?

Yep.

I made the mistake of subbing in a fun league and I'll never do it again..Lesson learned.

This is the way I view carrydown these days. I try to make it work to my advantage and some of my higher games have been with carrydown.

I bet 302 stands in the same place all night and just makes ball changes in order to cover the most boards.  He probably brings his 6 ball bag to a THS league.  Sets up a picnic in the left gutter, and doesn't move the whole night.

My idea of not fun:  throwing a shot and having the ball wash out every time, don't be afraid to make a move.  That's not bowling, thats standing around.

You sound like a kid who doesn't get his way.  If it's not fitting to MY game, I'm gonna take my ball and go home!   Sniffle Sniffle....
