Title: More channel improvements/adjustments, opinions?
Post by: Luke Rosdahl on November 09, 2017, 10:15:45 AM
Soliciting opinions once again for channel adjustments.  This is really just an effort to try and set myself further apart or really differentiate myself from what else is going on out there.  Adding humor has been a big hit, the little teasers I tried don't seem to be, the podcasts seem to be gaining steam, but my actual reviews are what seem to me to be too stale.

So if you would answer the following questions, I'd appreciate it:

1. What do you like that you want me to continue doing, and/or to expand on?

2. What do you not care for that you would like me to change or remove?

3. What do I not currently do that you would like to see me start doing?

I also just had an idea recently to do a challenge series.  I've had somebody after me to bowl 1 on 1 for a while, and that's just not really my thing, but I thought it would be fun to make a video series out of though.  Kind of like a Beat Bobby Flay type of deal.  My home house, they come to bowl and get to pick the pattern we bowl on.

Thanks for any and all feedback, it's appreciated!

1. What do you like that you want me to continue doing, and/or to expand on?

-Giving the dual angle layout
-Comparing to another current similar option
-Your take on the cover and core used
-How it actually plays for you
-Your expectations vs test results
-Showing multiple shots
-Camera angle -  some reviewers use stupid camera placement

2. What do you not care for that you would like me to change or remove?

-Can't think of anything to remove.

3. What do I not currently do that you would like to see me start doing?

-Random thought that may or may not turn into a muddy situation -  a chart or image of an Excel sheet showing the balls scores from your rating system in relation to past scored balls since implementing the system?

-Maybe pitch a few thoughts on what the new ball could be a replacement for from older Storm/RG releases. Random example - "Code Black, in my opinion could replace that Hyper Cell Skid that might have cracked on you or seems dead now"

-Sport pattern shots?

-What overlap you see between it and other currently available, or balls released in the last year or two. Example: Wouldn't buy a Torrent if I already own a Rocketship unless the intent is replacement.

Some of these are probably better suited for your opinion video that follows the review, which you definitely need to keep as well please.

Oh and two other things. When do we get to see your new Dual Angle Layout video you hinted at a few videos back? The Epic version of the Phaze II was cool, so maybe the occasional video showing the new ball getting punched up. Like when the Dare Devil Hybrid or Son!Q come in  ;D

Traditional ball review videos are whatever at this point - pretty much just move left, throw right...Keep up with the humor and the podcasts - those videos are informative and entertaining.

I like action bowling - I'd be down to see a "Beat Luke Rosdahl" series. That would be entertaining to me.

Enjoy the humor and your parody was gold, gold I tell you Luke!

Like the opinion videos, and enjoy the podcasts. The one where your buddy was in was good so think the big guy can be a reoccurring  guest.

Love the idea of seeing some challenge matches. And maybe some tips or words of wisdom from you about how you approach the game, leagues, tournaments.

And your dog is always a hit in the videos too!

I enjoy your channel as you keep it real and really love the sport and speak your mind. 8)

I’m not too sure what to call it but adding the ball tracker? The line that shows the exact path it goes down the lane. Other bowling videos have it so nothing new but I love this. Especially for comparisons, when you get to see both tracks down the lane.

^^^this.  Some of us don't see ball motion well even when its in front of our face.  My other suggestion is all these videos have rev monsters but when they do have a stroker they usually have a fairly low ball speed.  Would like to see more videos with a little bit higher speed strokers as well (like on Storm's website).

Luke keep what your doing. I like your videos. First Storm ball in a long time was the Hy-Road back in July then followed with the Intense. You videos were instrumental in both purchases. Now I am waiting for the Hy-Road Nano review. Please make a comparison to the Hy-Road

Agreed with both of the last 2 posts. I'm one of those who don't see ball motion well when looking at it, one who would like to see a high speed stroker release, and also one who bought an Intense based on your review/insight.  :)

Thanks for the feedback, some of this stuff may not happen instantly but hopefully at the beginning of next year I can make some significant improvements.

Alonzo, the new Dual Angle video is coming . . when, I have no idea lol, but I have everything ready, just have to put the video together.

I don't think my current software can do the ball tracker thing but I'll see.

Part of my challenge right now with the throwing it straighter thing is that it messes with the auto focus on my camera, sometimes it's an issue, sometimes it's not.  I can throw the ball straighter, I just need to figure out the particulars and haven't had time to mess with it.  I should have some time off at the beginning of the year to play with it.  Our house shot is also REALLY dry on the outside, so that makes it difficult, but hopefully can get it done.

Might make a ball reaction video too . . seeing lines may help on a video, but there are no tracer lines on a lane after you throw it, so maybe it's not an issue of not seeing it, but not knowing what to look for?

Not a huge deal personally for me really.  Just first things off top my head.  Do you enjoy your videos.

I am very thankful for your detailed analysis, and added humor to boot, on your vids. I will say, I do like the aforementioned idea of the ball motion addition, if that is something that you can do in the future. Thanks again for your insights.

I just watched the All Out Show Off video and immediately thought back to this thread. I have to admit... I don't see much if any difference between any of the balls. Problem on my part, I know, but I feel like I'm looking at one of those optical illusion pictures where everyone is saying "See the elephant"? and all I see are the dots. Particularly my favorite line "See it pick up in the mid lane"? No, I don't  :(. The line looks the same. I can judge break off the end of the pattern, and that's about it..
Anything you can do for those of us who are challenged in this area would be wonderful.

And one more vote for a dual angle video, although, I personally am using Storm's system now so would be just as happy seeing your analysis of their system.
Thanks Luke!

Wait a second....didn't you say something to the effect that the CG matters b/c you saw it?  Then we got into the debate of the effect of 1oz difference/carrying etc?

Certainly I could be wrong here (and will take it back if I am) but I seem to remember something like that.....

Good grief, how does that enter into this? Wait I said, although it has no reason here, is that for myself, with my eyes, when I do different things, I see certain conditions making a difference. I've said that a lot. As for the rest, you may be mistaken, but I frankly don't care enough to debate with you. Please troll elsewhere....

Back on point here, no, I do not see the differences in the videos Luke's been shooting, and can't match to commentary like seeing where it picks up in the midlane. Sorry, I just don't see it on the video. The tracker would be a great assist.

Part of the deal is that everything looks the same at my home house for some reason and the track is extremely defined, so that's why you see me playing virtually the same area of the lane on every single video no matter what the ball does.  However, the Hectic is getting thrown slower than the All Out, and the Ink is being kept tighter to the pocket.  As soon as I try to move out of that zone, ball reaction gets weird.  It's 17 year old pro lane 1, so it's a low friction surface with high friction wear and bad topography.  You have to play 3rd arrow there, you just have to.  Now if you go back and watch my lefty videos, you should see differences easier, but I don't blame anyone for not seeing much out of my videos because it's not obvious.  Now I can see everything, but I've got 20/8 vision and have a high level of familiarity with this house, so I can still see things going on that aren't always visually obvious.
