Post by: helpless bowler on April 22, 2008, 06:20:58 AM
would you get more revs with your pinky up against your ring fingure or with it spread out?

Just depends. I have very high amount of revs and don't tuck my pinky. I usually tuck my pinky on my spare shots when Im just sliding the ball basically. I have a video of my revs in my profile.

Not only does the tucked pinky help some what but you have to have wrist snap at the bottom of the swing. It's more with the wrist than anything else actually. Release the ball like you are using a yo yo. That type of motion will generate a ton of revs. Only thing is that it takes alot of time and practice to get the release down.

Pinky position only pertains to personal prefrence. I keep my pinky out but thats not what generates all my revs. You get revs from your leverage. The sooner your thumb gets out the more revs. Usually the more you bend your knee the more revs you get. The more muscle you use to lift at release the more revs. Maybe your pinky position can add or take away 5 revs but not that much more.

Check out this site, very good explanations on finger changes with your release, and lots of other useful tips.

So let me ask you something, BuzzsawCrazy. How is it you know so much about this "yo-yo" technique when you have no clue how to do it yourself? Instead of watching and envying people like Kenny Simard and Robert Smith and Tommy Jones and, oh yeah, me, just stick to twirling it off your hand and come to the unfortunate realization that you'll never beat me in a rev competition. Thank you.

Just kidding, bud! Haha!

Disclaimer: I am in no way comparing my skills to those of Kenny Simard, Robert Smith, or Tommy Jones, so for all of you with minimal reading comprehension abilities, please don't chew me out.

I agree. I am a high rev player and the revs only pertain to how your wrist snaps at the bottom of your swing. Your pinky in or out dictates some of your axis rotation. If you tuck your pinky in and move your index finger out, that theoredically increases your axis rotation. Or if you leave it out it will kind of decrease axis rotation. And by axis rotation i mean the direction that your ball is rotated towards during release.

What's the point of having 500+ revs if you dont use them???
