Most aggressive Pearl ball
« on: September 12, 2012, 10:50:03 AM »
Hello BR.com members,
Wanted to see what your thoughts are on the most aggressive pearl ball on the market today. I am presently bowling on the Kegel Highway to Hell pattern, and I am finding some difficulties. My aggressive solid equiment seems to burn up to early and my current pearl equipment is not strongh enough to make the turn on the fresh. My stats are: 19MPH, 380-390 RPM, axis tilt about 26 degs (more up the back of the ball). So I am a little on the speed dependant side which is why I am looking for an aggressive pearl that might work on the fresh, and allow me to migrate left with oil as the night moves on. What are your thoughts??

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Roto-Grip Critical Theory is about as aggressive as your going to get right now. The New Storm Lucid will mirror or be a touch stronger.

I would suggest getting a Nexxxus F(P+S) for a pearl ball that can handle heavier oil  and is very aggressive in the back part of the lane. The Nexxxus F(P+S) is about 4 boards stronger than the Nexxus F(P+R) in the back part of the lane. I can use my Nexxxus on a fresh shot and keep moving left to bank it off of the friction because of the recovery that this ball has downlane.

I can't argue with the numbers on any of the other submissions.  Also check out the Storm Nano Pearl and the Roto-Grip Defiant Edge.  All have similar numbers.  I am partial to the Defiant edge, because I had the same issues with pearl equipment.

dv8's hell raiser line has the most aggressive balls on the market but i dont know enough about their balls to tell you if they are pearlized or not.... so im gonna tell you what i do know without talking about dv8. the critical theory is the most aggressive pearlized ball created up to date. the nano pearl is second in the run. they say the new Nexxxus f(P+S) is just as aggressive as the critical theory but i tested both out at a ball test junction in which they were both laid out the same and the CT was far more aggressive for me. the next is the brunswick Nexus f(P) Pearl. a buddy of mine who throws nothing but brunswick said that ball was a joke on different patterns so i personally wouldnt consider it. plus its made in mexico. a decent hybrid is that stealth bomber by lane 1. you get the best of both worlds. and while on the hybrid coverstock that infinite theory is a very very powerful ball and it easy to use. then my favorite pearlized ball is the marvel pearl. its not my strongest but it is my most versatile. then you have the hammer taboo pearl and many others start coming into play after them.

i forgot to mention that my marvel pearl is my go to ball on the highway to hell. and i have a standard straight up layout with the pin above my ring finger and the thumb is kicked off by about 2.5inches to the left of where the imaginary mass bias is located.. i dont know my axis tilt exactly but matt weslot told me it is about 17degrees. and i have a mid/high track. my rev rate is approximately 400-450. depending on what shot i an bowling on of course. and my speed at 15ft down the lane is 19-19.2 consistantly. you wont be disappointed if you get the marvel pearl or the critical theory. but the critical has a difficult transitioning on that shot when you have a high rev bowler inside of were you are throwing

The RG Critical Theory is among the strongest pearl balls available at this point.  That ball easily will work in most heavier conditions.  The Defiant Edge, VG Nano Pearl, and the new Lucid are not that far behind.  Even the Brunswick Nexxxus f(P+S) is very close to the Critical Theory.

RG 2.494  Differential .057 Intermediate Differential .019 To me, these numbers say very strong ball. In a pearl shell, this is the Morich HookR. I have the DestroyR that is a hybrid and it is a beast. The HookR has more differential and intermediate differential. I haven't seen one yet but I can't help but think it would fit the bill.

I hate to say it, because I like new toys just as much as anyone, but have you tried adding some surface to any of your pearl stuff?

What pearl stuff do you have?

Doom,
Thanks for the thought. I have in the past. What I seem to get is more arc and less skid/snap, but not a lot of more overall hook. This week I am going to try the opposite actually, lol. Have put some polish on my RG Defiant to see if that will allow it to not burn up so quick but still allow me to get a little bit of room (as much as you can get on a sports pattern) that I was lacking last week.

Jorge, do I have an idea for you!

Try sanding the pearl ball with the sanding lines parallel to the first track. That will get the ball through the heads, but when it starts to flare, it will really grab. There is a difference in ball reaction.

Nexxxus is the strongest pearl in the Brunswick line.  Not as strong as the Nano Pearl, but I think it is a better core shell matchup because it tends to retain more energy off the breakpoint than the Nano.
