So I'm curious as to just how much weight could be removed from a ball by drilling the fingers deeper and utilizing a large weight hole?  I keep seeing some really interesting discontinued balls on ebay that are NIB and cheap, but usually 16lbs. Now I throw 15lbs.  But Im wondering if you could remove enough weight to get these things down to say 15lbs 8-10oz post drilling, so that there wouldn't be a huge difference with my 15lb equipment.  If anybody has tried this I'm curious to hear.

Correct me if Im wrong, I've only been drilling bowling balls for less than a year but at most you are looking at 2-3 oz when you drill out the fingers and thumb.  You would need a large weight hole to get it down from 16 even to say 15.8.  And when you are drilling a large weight hole, you are taking away your side weight.  I would say it isn't worth it.

Yeah I'm not talking about creating side/top/bottom/whatever weight.  I'm talking about removing enough weight so that I can throw a 16lb'r enough that it wouldn't throw my game off a whole lot when switching between my 15lb balls. 

So it seems that with deeper fingers and a weight hole I would be removing a max of 4-5 oz from the total weight?

You could drill the fingers 3 to 4 inches deep and do the same thing with your thumb hole as a pilot hole and then go over top of it with your slug hole and slug.

You probably could get a 16.00 ball to around 15.11 - 15.12 doing that.   Add in a weight hole to take out a few more ounces and you could get it to 15.10


In reality you are just drilling huge holes and removing the weight block dynamics of the ball.


I don't think you are going to get it to 15.8 (15 1/2 lbs) unless you start with a 15.12 to 15.14 total gross weighted ball.
