Fit Problems
« on: September 23, 2007, 10:46:09 AM »
I went out today and bowled 7 games of practice. At the end of the 7th, i noticed that I had ripped open my thumb were a callus had always been. I've noticed lately that my span feels a bit more strecthed but I don't know why. Even though I was fitted without a glove on, it was still a comfortable grip with it on. I will take it off it thats what it is. I have also always been using tape to get the fit I want so I don't think that would affect anything.

I just don't know why my span could be too long when I thought my hand would still be growing!!!

Any advice or comments?

There IS a span difference with/without the glove on, if its a certain type of glove.  There's a possibility that's what it is.

But I was fitted over a year ago and it has been fine up til now. I've been wearing the glove the whole time.

Besides the thumb issue, did you feel any pain while you were bowling. have you recently gained or loss significant amount of weight? Is the ball(s) thrown today recently new drillings?

i have lost 20 lbs and counting (The Natural Cures diet is awesome!). How would that affect anything? All of the balls i took with me, old and new, felt odd. Only pain was the shot that it ripped open.

Well, you're 17-18, so there's a good chance your hand is still growing.  Even if you aren't, there's the possiblity that the flexiblity in your hand/fingers has changed.  If your equipment feels odd, I'd at least get fitted up again and see what the difference is.

Good point.  I'm 23 and my flexibility has already decreased quite a bit from just the past two years.  I've had to change to (if I remember right...) 1/8th" reverse on finger pitches to reduce the strain on my fingertip joints.  I feel no pain now and come out of the ball cleaner.  I also use a touch of reverse on my thumb hole.

Since you've lost weight your thumb and fingers are probably a little smaller.  This might cause you to grip the ball slightly differently.  I recommend you go back to your fitter and start from the beginning, then compare those measurements with the actual ball.  --  JohnP
