"First Quality" ball?
« on: August 05, 2006, 12:53:26 AM »
I ordered a Storm Perfecta off of Ebay and it came today.  It is supposed to be an "x-Blem" ball that is "first quality" with minor cosmetic problems.  It comes today and it has a 6" pin and it could probably be concidered "pro-cg".  Do I have a right to send this back because it is not first quality like the auction says it is?  If there is nothing I can do, is this even drillable?

"how about pin 3 3/8" stacked vertical over your PAP on VAL and cg aimed back at COG?"

I'll probably do something like this.  It could turn out to be a different look that I wouldn't get with a "first quality" ball.

quote:
x-blem does not explain 6" inch pin.  read the post.  x-blem has non-performance effecting problems.

"A BALL IS LABELED AN X-BLEM FOR ANY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

-COLOR PIGMENTATION
-SMALL PITTING CAUSED BY AIR BUBBLES
-UNIQUE PIN PLACEMENT, TOP WEIGHT, OR BOMB LOCATION
-LABELS ARE ENGRAVED IN UNUSUAL PLACES
-SWIRL PATTERNS OF THE BALL ARE NOT CONSISTANT"

From his discription.  I would take a 6" Pin as being Unique..  Just my opinion.

If you decide to drill it, confirm the cg location and top weight first.  The cg could be mismarked.  --  JohnP

looking at your pic it looks like your cg is in line with the pin.
but like they said have them weigh it and what not.  my roto grip
RSX had a 5 1/4" pin, and i had it drilled to go long and strong
arc in the back.  and it does exactly that.  i received that ball
from bowlingball.com.  havent dealt with their customer service, but
keith spear is a pretty stand up guy, known him for years.  it doesnt
hurt also to email them about the miscommunication of the sell.  they
may swap it for ya.

After studying the situation and reading the posts I realized that a x-blem can have hard to drill specs.  I made the mistake of thinking that 2nds were spec issues and x-blems were cosmetic issues.  I have since learned that I was wrong in that assumption.  Bowlingball.com is not to blame, only myself for not understanding what I was buying.  Thanks everyone for weighing in on the issue.  I'm going to try to sell on the forums, if I can't, I will put some sort of stacked drilling with the pin way above my fingers and see what she does...
