Value of my new equipment?
« on: April 30, 2007, 04:14:30 PM »
Quick story....

While practicing with a friend today, I proceeded to murder him 7/8 matches. End result was him owing me $78. He has been very moody about bowling due to success in the beginning and now recently slumping. He has been threatening to quit the sport many times recently. Well, he left me his balls, 2 ball roller, and dexter sst6's as payment. Assuming that I can't persuade him to take his equipment back, what should I sell this stuff of for, price ranges?

All balls are 15lb
MoRich Awesome Finish - Roughly 40 games on it

*** UPDATE ***** He has come around, I had to get into him, but he has come around. He still wants to sell the Awesome Finish though. I will talk to him later to get a set price. Thread will be locked now.
Lanes were freshly oiled beforewe bowled, I believe a sport shot was put down. Still no reason to quit, not sure exactly what to say to my friend to bring him back to the light.

You could sell me the shoes for pretty cheap, if you wanted.

"While practicing with a friend today"....
Can't be much of a friend if you would sell his equipment to cover a lost bet. Are you looking to dump this "friend"? If so, selling his equipment would be a slam-dunk, I would think....

I'm inclined to agree with the opinion of this, in general.

If he is a friend, it was probably done in a moment of weakness. Hold onto the equipment, as long as you have some room; then ask him if he'd like it back in 2 - 6 weeks, depending on his mood as you talk to him. If he still says no, ask him again in 3 months. It won't kill you to hold onto his stuff; it can always be sold.

Sometimes it's not so easy to sell used bowling equipment. If it were me, if I did eventually sell, I'd feel obligated to give him the largest portion, taking only what it cost me in actual money to make the sales. If he were a friend, that is.

Like I said in the first post, just wanted ball park figures just in case. The equipment will only be sold "Assuming that I can't persuade him to take his equipment back". I had no intent of keeping his equipment, he stormed out of the alley and told me to keep the equipment for payment, he wasn't paying cash. I paid my dues to him early on and he is still up on me in $$. He has been moody like this for 2months now but I seriously think he has snapped this time.

Offer your friend a chance to win the equipment back with another match.  Instill some confidence in your friend...(if you catch, my drift). I'm sure that is all he needs - and the sport will retain another bowler. No sense in losing any more bowlers....not to mention - a friend.

I thought about instilling some confidence in him, lol. But im not sure that is the best thing for him. He still hasn't learned "how to lose" yet. Just 2weeks ago  he was talking about joining leagues with the cities finest and how he was gonna rake in $$ winning pots every week.

After high school we stopped bowling, came back in Jan. after 5years, lol. Well, he came back and improved drastically, would easily avg over 200 in a league. Of course with others seeing this, he received a lot of hype and offers to join fall teams due to his lack of average. Im just catching up and reality has hit him over the last 3weeks, he is not the superstar bowler he thought it was. I told him this  would happen but not sure how to get him to bounce back and quit crying like a little pansy.
