My tourney experience -- Update -- and a side note
« on: November 10, 2003, 07:09:55 PM »
A few weeks ago, several of you were quite gracious and supportive when I posted about my accomplishments in a local tournament. Again, I thank you all for that. Last night I saw the final results of the tournament and thought I'd let you know how I fared ...

My husband and I placed 5th in our doubles division, I placed 7th in my singles division and I placed 2nd in all events. We were only locked out of the cash in the team event. Not too bad for only our third tournament experience.

On another note ... recently there was a topic about getting into other bowlers' heads. Well, all I can say after my experience last night is that it works both ways. Here's the story ...

At the end of league last week, a woman came up to me and told me I'd better bring my crying towel the next time because our team was bowling them and we were giving them 100 pins per game. Now lately, this 100% of 220 handicap has been biting us in the ... you know, so the comment weighed on me all week long. Last night we showed up for league, and I told my team the situation. I basically said to them that 100 pins was nothing if we just bowled our game. That's exactly what we did. None of us bowled big games, but we carried each other and covered for each other when one made a less than perfect shot. We took the first game by 17 pins, coming from behind in the 10th frame when they thought they had it won. After that, all was gravy. We bowled and they didn't. So, the woman tried to get into my head, and my team was able to turn that remark into the fire we needed to pull out a sweep. Man, I'm proud of my team!

Just had to let you know that a head game can backfire.
