Just because I'm tired of hearing about how everyone's favorite ball hits so hard. I know it's all about matchup, and there is no magic juice in some balls and not in others.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

How about any 80's 3-piece urethane on the lanes and oils of today?

Really now? My little brother found one at a bargain table at the bowling alley for $15. Didn't have to redrill or anything. He's shot his highest set with it, and had a streak of about 4 or 5 league days over 600 (that is until they put some oil on the lanes).

I know EVERYONE is gonna disagree with me, but this is only from personal usage. Here i go.. the NO MERCY hit like a dud for me. The lanes weren't even bad. It was the actual ball hitting like a dud. I don't know why, but that's only from what i saw when i used it.

Hammer Hawg was the worst hitting ball I have ever thrown. I could carry strikes better with a spare ball (seriously). I however think the other Hawg series balls are real decent and the other end of the spectrum.
Track xception hit like a plastic ball for me also.

Only had one ball that I've thrown that when hitting the pocket just would not carry. The Hammer Truck. I've thrown a lot of pieces that did not work for me, but when I found a way to get there, they would do their thing..not this one. I left so many pocket splits with that ball.
Oh well....the ONLY pre Ebonite Hammer ball I didn't like.

Bone XS - Tried 4 different drillings, with various surfaces, couldn't get consistent hook, hit, or carry, until the 4th drill, then the coverstock cracked.
Masterpiece - Tried 2 different drills, and lots of different surfaces, but I just can't get a good read on this one.(I'm still playing with the surface, and toying with another drilling, so this one still has possibilities.)

MoRich Weapon of Mass Bias. Hit great when I got it and reacted nice. I shot my first and only 300 game with it in 05. Last Thursday I left it in a corner in the bowling alley for someone to pick it up. That's right, I hated it so much I left it there at the alley. That was right before I chucked it into some bushes outside the alley then brought it back in.It wasen't worth selling because I didn't want to associate with it anymore. After leaving 3 5 pins and a 5-7 plus numerous soft 10s and a 8-10 that was it. The ball has been acting funny and didn't like it much when I practiced with it. I should of never brought it to league and shoot an emabarrasing 490.

The Rule Delta 1 hit like garabge for me. At times it would drive so hard that it chop thru the pins on off hits and leave all kinds of splits.
Now most bowling balls hit pretty good. There is a difference in the hit and carry of bowling balls. The DOOM for example hit's and carry's better than just about any bowling ball I have ever owned.

So far here is my list:
From Use:
1) Tsunami H20
2) Enriched Uranium (Still trying this one on a different drill)
3) Storm X-Factor Deuce (Dead after 30 games)
4) Ebonite Ice
5) Track Mutant
From Observance:
1) G-Force
2) Columbia Spirit
3) Columbia Reaction Roll
4) Radical Inferno
5) Johnny Petraglia LT-48 (Yes, today. Still know a guy who uses one on today's conditions)
-
I haven't had any "duds". However, the worst "dud" I've seen was the Angular One, no joke. However, the guy that I saw throw it had a pretty slow speed and low revs... I don't know if this guy still throws it because I now bowl at a different house.

I hate to label any ball a dud, because it usually has something to do with the bowler, layout, or matchup. Most of the balls I haven't liked I could usually see being used successfully by someone else.
One exception for me is the Storm X-Factor Deuce. I put my favorite asymmetric layout on it, and the ball reaction was inconsistent and hit terrible. I first played with the cover, experimenting with 500-2000 grit surfaces. Next, I plugged and redrilled -- no improvement.
This ball was my final purchase from Storm. I won't take another chance with them.

No real disappointment so far - but the X-Factor RE-Loaded I once had would only perform well when it was freshly sanded. 2 or 3 games later, the ball would not need a new sanding tour. The ball did not like oil, either. Rather a bid overall disappointment.

AMF Impact KE-21 never worked for me.
The first resin hammers (Particularly the blue one) didn’t seem to work for anyone.
Columbia Rage had limited success.
The burgundy Brunswick pro zone.
The ebonite Omega.
I’m sure there are many others that have faded into obscurity.

Riptide/Tombstone/Syntactive hammer
Never rolled the Synthactive Hammer so I can't confirm that. But the Riptide was by far the worst followed closely by the Tombstone. Something tells me Ebonite trashed the formula and tried to forget that "Pro Reactive Resin" coverstock.
And I will stand up and defend the poor 3D Superhook Hammer as well. Quite popular around here. Just mislabeled with the "Super Hook" moniker.
-
Raging Inferno- I just could seem to get that ball to turn the corner. It also died after about 35-40 games.
Scout Reactive blue/gold- it slid so far, it made a house shot look like a 60ft sport shot.
Rule Delta 1- It hit like a friggin truck, but it was so condition specific, i couldnt stand it.

Ive had well over 30 balls in the past 5 years of seriousl bowling, and i have to say that i have never had a ball that did not work. I use different and unusual drillings all the time to experiment and i seem to always be able to score with that ball at some house or some tournament. The one ball that i had that just was way to condition specific was Action Packed. I use it every once in a while at a certain house and its good, but thats about it.

Two balls come to mind for me
1)Black Sumo:Looked great entering the pocket, lots of flat 8-10s and 7-10s.Not the bowlers fault right??(sarcasm)
2)Power Torque:Waaayy too over/under for my inconsistent release and speed control. Same as the Sumo when it did find it's way to the pocket.
I agree with anyone who says there aren't bad balls, just bad matchups.Either with lane conditions or bowlers styles.
I was just remembering,I GAVE,yes GAVE those two balls away to two different guys that got alot of use out of both balls.

Remember I am old and all the new balls I use are very condition specific and hit just fine when used right.
Back in the day, lots of guys were making the show with the Columbia 300 PowerTorq. Had it drilled up strong and that ball did NOTHING for me would come up and hit like a turd. My Teal Rhino Pro and Blue Hammer outhooked it and hit a ton harder. Used it as a spare ball up until a year and a half ago when I went with a longer span and couldn't deal with paying to plug and drill. Left it on the rack at the bowling ally.

Only two come to mind for me, and the first was when I was less knowledgeable. The Command Zone Arc just never did it for me. It looked like it revved up and read the lane well, but just wasn't very effective for me. It wasn't really bad, but something else was always more effective on the same lanes. The other was the V2 Particle. On medium oil, it revved too early and burned up (no surprise). On anything heavier, it never did much. I had to really hit high flush to get consistent carry. After two drilling's and multiple surfaces, I sent it on it's way. I'm sure they were good balls for many, but I never had much luck with either.
