Currently I would say AMF Desoto..

League cost is $17

First I would say the lanes broke down for serveral teams and the lanes they moved us 2 broke down..  This isnt the first time but this is sad...

AMF Kegler's Lanes in Charlottesville, Va. Place doesn't oil half the time, the lanes are beat up wood that hasn't been resurfaced, balls get chewed up, pins need to be replaced, management is incompetent, and games typically are in the $5-8 range.

That's why if I bowl with friends, I take them to Waynesboro! The lanes aren't great, but I had no trouble, and I was so confused when there was something called oil on the lanes. The $1.25/game before 6PM offset the 20 minute drive.

Another horrible house is AMF Military Highway in Norfolk, Virginia. I've bowled travel league there multiple times, and the machines frequently break down, the return eats up balls, and the management there could care less.

My local lanes have conditioned me to block out a lot. When it down pours the ceilings leak. On any given night (practically every night) you can have pin holder/s swapped out, reracks (missing buttons), black outs, pins in the table, won't set up pins, incorrect scoring, calls for ball returns, etc etc. In the beginning I was so furious it would throw me off my game now it's just another Tuesday. It's also not known for being a higher scoring house which in the end I like. The place isn't run down it's just not properly kept like anywhere else I bowl.

We have a place called Sky Lanes about 35 mins from here. It's an old AMF house, wood lanes, old pin setters, piss poor customer service basically a throw back to the late 80s. That is about the worst place I've bowled at yet, not a dump just a place I'd rather not spend money.

In no particular order:

1. Palos Verdes
2. Shatto 39 (39 lane house because they had to remove the 40th lane to make a fire exit. Also, still have above ground ball returns)
3. Bowling alley in ridgecrest...1 tournament, 5 games qualifying, 5 people's bowling balls got destroyed.
4. AMF Westchester is going downhill fast.

Haha, yes. I bowled there once (it was 2 minutes from where I lived) and never went back.

I live in Fort Worth and there is many centers in Dallas County I haven't tried yet. Closet to Desoto I've been is Red Bird Lanes in Duncanville. It's kind of nice for an older center.

What's worse out my way? In Fort Worth area, goes to: Don Carter City View. Biggest bowling center in Dallas/Fort Worth (64 lanes), nicely maintained but I've had way too many negative experiences from the people and management that work there. As for "dumps" it would go to Cowtown lanes in the armpit of Fort Worth, River Oaks. Nasty, ugly weird place that has lanes on one side and lanes on the other. If it had a severe remodel it could be a good alley. The other nasty place is AMF Hurst in Hurst. Old, out of date bowling alley in a beat up parking lot like Cowtown. Next to an abandoned building that pairs with it. Only has 24 lanes I think. The lanes are in horrible shape and they never strip them. The heads are not even and are beat up. Could either buy out the building next to it and expand it and remodel the whole place but since AMF owns it then it will never happen. AMF Showplace in Euless is a nice alley but AMF owns it and management charges 5.00 a game on the weekends and they have a 54 lane center with little open play because no one can afford that.

The worst though is Holiday Lanes in Denton. Went there once and will not return. Not only was there 0 oil, but I thought the building was about to fall down on me. One of the most nasty bowling alleys I've ever seen. Also, the automatic scoring machines were all broke and beat up. I had no idea what the score was.

Try the Main Event in Lewisville Texas not sanctioned and no leagues they only rent by the hour no price per game, they are always doing "glow bowling" and the lanes are so dry my plastic spare ball breaks.  They also have several 100 video games and about 15 pool tables and even a laser tag game it is strictly for non bowlers to have a fun time.

Main Event is not a bowling alley in my opinion. It's a multi entertainment center like Dave and Buster's or former Bronco Bowl...just have different things like video and hand games and lazer tag. The lazer tag is actually fun. I just wish they had a time that only 18+ years up can enter.

I went to the Main Event in Grapevine the weekend it opened and I brought my own equipment. It was like 18 an hour which is outrageous. The lanes had little to no oil on them from what I remember. I had to play right and hard and straight. I tried to stand on 40 and drift hard left and wanted to loft the cap but the ball return was so long would have made it impossible. I did have a good time watching the pros in Lewisville at the Rolls to Riches a couple years ago. But it's not a place I'd ever pay money to bowl at.

There is a place in Michigan called Fountain View I think.  I subbed there for a few weeks, and it was by far the worst house ever.

Their house league shot had no oil.  It was crazy.  I had to stand as far right as I could (lefty) take out all of the hand, and get it as far left as I could with as much speed as I could.

It was SICK  Challenging though, and that was a bonus.

You can find a lot worse centers in the southern California inland empire area than Norco.....AMF Arrowhead in San Bernardino, and Oak Tree in Diamond Bar come to mind just off the top of my head.  I've never seen much problem with the approaches in Norco, only problem I had there was when the staff allowed a birthday party to take flash pictures while an ABT tournament was going on, but I blame the director as much as the staff for that one.  I bowl at Arrowhead a lot, and it isn't the worst center in the world but there isn't a pair of lanes in that house that plays like a pair, and some of the approaches have gum and other substances glued to the approach.  Oak Tree just doesn't have any oil, and the people that bowl there are proud of that, like it's some great thing that they've learned how to bowl on virtually no oil.  The 3rd one that comes to mind, and I refuse to bowl in this one is Foothill in Fontana.  Lanes are so burned and dry they leave white burn tracks on your equipment.  Bowling is usually cheap there, but there's a reason why.

Raceway Lanes FOREVER!!! ROYAL PIN YOUR WHATS WRONG IN INDY!!!!

I have to agree.  All of the houses I bowled at as a kid (Sport Bowl, Lynhurst Bowl, Raceway Lanes) were all bought by Royal Pin and shut down.  It sucks too, as Royal Pin centers have terrible folks working there and I can't bowl anywhere in Indy without a Royal Pin sign out front!
